Hi guys:

I a newbie to the whole idea of jailbreaking and I've been reading this forum all day trying to gather info.

I'm attraced to jailbreaking because of the customization, and the ability to play old NES games on my iphone. I'd love to make my own backgrounds for the iphone and change a few of the options (text message sound), use my camera as a video recorder, use the iphone as a portable hard drive to carry files, etc.. but I'm not really looking to completely alter my iphone experience.

So far, it appears that if I jailbreak under 3.0 and 3.1 comes out, I'll have to wipeout my jailbreak and update to 3.1, or I guess jsut wait until the JB for 3.1 comes out.

Is it hard to make custom themes, upload custom wallpapers, etc.. if you're new to the whole JB thng? I actually don't mind apple's icons, so I'd probably stay with those but do some tweaks here and there. Can I still access the itunes store and purchase music/legit apps? Is there anyway to back up the JB firmware once I have it all specced out like I would like?

I've read the stickied thread about jailbreaking and it seems to concentrate on the 2.2 firmawar. Is their a step by step for jailbreaking the 3.0?
