Weird anomoly with preview opening Sony A7R V raw files

If I shoot in crop (APS-C) mode on my Sony A7R V preview can't open the files and finder doesn't show the image thumbnail, however preview has no issue opening the files shot in full frame and the thumbnail images show in finder. Lightroom has no issue with them, but you can't see them in preview/finder to know which files you're transferring off the card. Has anyone else found this and know of a solution please?

I'm running Mac OS Ventura 13.7

Lossless compressed. I tend to shoot most things in lossless compressed. I have the A1 too and preview/finder has no problem with those files in either full frame or APS-C, it's only happening with the A7R V phoos shot in APS-C mode.

Just noticed this thread..... Although I shoot Sony, and have the A1 and the A7R V, too, I shoot only RAW uncompressed full-frame with both cameras, so can't really offer any help as to what might be going on here.

Ah, a lightbulb just flashed in my mind. Does Ventura support the A7R V? since you are still on that version of MacOS, maybe that is the issue?

to add to @Clix Pix : your full frame A7R V RAWs are not uncompressed? officially the Sony is not supported - but - in my limited experience - the lossless uncompressed formats do not change so much between camera generations. If you take an uncompressed lossless APS-C crop -photo, does thumbnail generation in Finder work?


EDIT: it is supported - did check for the model ILCE-7RM5 but A7R V. I apologize.

I never thought to look as it works with shots taken at Full Frame. I’ll look into it 👍🏻

A follow up on this, I've just tried shooting in APS-C uncompressed, lossless compressed and compressed. The image appears for the uncompressed and compressed, but not lossless compressed. I'll have to remember to change it to uncompressed when shooting APS-C.
