I recently bought a 3GS and decided to give my 3G to my wife.
I was using the 3G without 3G as my sim did not have the data pack (sim from my company).
Now my wife is using it with normal 3G sim card and the battery is dying within 24h max...i find this coincidence very odd as previously with my sim the battery was acting normally (2 to 3 days life).

At first i thought it was the 3G but on my 3GS where i now have the 3G the battery is lasting more than 24h.
For instance she charged the iPhone 3G 100% yesterday afternoon and this morning when she checked it, it was at 20% and then died without even showing the 10% message....

Could you see any correlation between the new sim/operator and the battery sudden death...also i have put the brightness at the middle, remove notifications, i am on wifi at home...

Thanks
X

I did read that the power required to connect to 3G varies with the distance of the towers, and that it requires more power anyway than using 2G, so it's possible that the immediate variation is due to now having 3G active.

You could test it by turning off 3G in your settings and seeing if it goes back to better battery life.

Maybe it's a bad sim card, or there's a problem with your service in the area.

Contact AT&T to ask WTFBBQ!? and then if there's no issue from AT&T in regards to service and the sim card, take it up to Apple to get the iPhone 3G checked out.

I wil try what you said...
I also read on the forum that some people had the same issue since 3.0.1 and this could actually correlate with the start of my battery issue...argggghhh!!!
