Anyone else notice that? I plugged my iphone in a few minutes ago to download the new carrier file. While heading to the shower I was looking to see if the settings had changed and then I saw the tethering 'on' 'off' switch. As I was excited, I plugged it back up to the computer, opened iTunes, and iTunes gave me a weird error message. Now tethering is gone :(

in settings>usage

just noticed it too and haven't connected to laptop after the MMS reboot

Tethering was in Settings > Networks

Well that's a relief. I thought I was going crazy. I knew I should have taken a screen shot.

my guess is that it may be in the APN file but there is a script during iphone bootup to shut it down

It's weird you mentioned that.
I checked my phone after the update and it has a Tethering option. <head scratch>
No jailbreak and running the official 5.5 carrier file.

EDIT: I did notice that my 3G service keeps going in and out after the carrier file update.

3.1
See the first pic I posted for version info.
It's all legit version, not hacked in any way.

Damn it. There's gotta be a way to get my tethering back. Everyone's saying 3.1 was the reason why tethering disappeared as an option, and yet your phone retained it.

Don't feel bad... as soon as I turned on tethering and connected it to my work laptop, the tethering option disappeared from my network settings. :(

AHhhh.. that's what happened to everyone. Sucks... really regret updating to 3.1

Hopefully the JB comes out soon so I can get a tethering app.

I update a 3G on 3.01 to 5.1 then 5.5 and it still has the tethering, I wonder if you need to update to the hacked 5.1 first, then 5.5?

I have an iPhone 3G with firmware version 3.1
I manually updated the carrier update a couple of weeks ago to 5.1 and then updated it today to 5.5. I saw this thread and checked to see if I had Tethering and sure enough it was there. I attempted to pair my iPhone and Computer together through Bluetooth and it worked. I paired them, and then I clicked the Bluetooth symbol on the top of the menu bar on my Mac to choose the iPhone as my internet connection. But as soon as I did that my iPhone automatically went from the tethering options screen to the screen that just says "Network" on top. The tethering option isn't there anymore.

I have the 5.5 ipcc installed, and still my tethering works. Just tried it again and it still works on both my 3GS units. However, MMS doesn't work, lol!

I have the 5.0 carrier and everything works...

I dont want to upgrade to 5.5 until I am sure I wont loose tethering.

I suspect someone will have to hack the 5.5 so I wont be doing any updating until more time passes.

I cant believe how quick folks are to get 5.5.

You could have installed 5.0 today and had MMS work.
