Hey all,

I have an M1 MacBook Air, and I've been using a CalDigit TS3+ at my desk for a while, and it works great. I recently picked up a USB to DisplayPort DisplayLink adapter from Cable Matters to add a second monitor, and the monitor plugged into it works just fine.

Problem is, whenever the DisplayLink display is connected, the monitor connected directly to the DisplayPort port on the TS3+ seems to lose some color depth and things that are supposed to be black look gray instead. It goes back to normal once the DisplayLink display is disconnected. I borrowed another DisplayLink dock (Dell D6000) and hooked up my second monitor through that, and the same thing happened.

Both monitors below are showing a fullscreen black window. Directly connected display on the left, DisplayLink display on the right. Anyone know what's going on here and if there's something I can do about it? I'm on Big Sur 11.4 with DisplayLink Manager 1.4.0.

Weird.
Is the DisplayLink adapter plugged into a USB port on the CalDigit dock or directly to the other USB-C port of the MacBook Air?

I've had it plugged in through the CalDigit. I just tried it directly into the Air and it did the same thing.

The directly connected screen goes black for a few seconds when the DisplayLink display is connected (either by plugging in the adapter or by launching DisplayLink manager with it already plugged in) and when it comes back on, it has the color issues. It goes black for a few seconds and comes back on with normal colors when the DisplayLink display is disconnected. Super weird, especially when I haven't seen the M1 machine black out the screen while switching display modes in any other circumstance.
