[insert disclaimer here] I absolutely love the phone, and I’m not returning it.

I never thought I would have these two issues, ever, but honestly, my iPhone X is significantly too bright, and moderately too loud.

I’ll explain.

I absolutely love how bright it is in direct sunlight. I’ve raved to friends about how great it is that I can see detail in the display in the midday sun, even with my polarized sunglasses (as you may know, LCD doesn’t play well with polarization). It’s a joy to use in most situations. But when I’m in a pitch black room, the screen remains too bright for comfort, even when the brightness bar is all the way at the bottom.

I wish there were a way to bring the lowest brightness down more.

And, again, I have NEVER had this problem before, but the speakers are just a scootch too loud at the lowest settings. In a quiet space, listening to podcasts, music, or even the speakerphone during calls, I’m constantly trying to turn the volume down one more tick. Granted, I have sensitive ears, but I have never before wanted to lower the volume and not been able to.

The volume thing is mild, but the screen brightness is causing me to change my nighttime habits, perhaps not a tragedy, but not my preference.

Am I alone in these two issues?

Holy hell, I had my alarm set last weekend for a Coffee and Cars even, starts early, wanted to let the wife sleep in - the alarm went off, woke me up, her up ... the neighbors, people in a different state ...

Anyway, it is definitely a good bit louder vs. my 6S+ and it _seems_ like it's a lot louder vs. my wife's 7[?] You know, same apps, same sound settings, etc.

Thank you thank you thank you!

I just did it, and it worked perfectly. Triple clicking the side button now reduces the brightness significantly.

Yes! Even the attention awareness notification volume is way louder. I had to turn all of those down too.

Agreed, that's a handy trick.

Another way to reduce the glaring brightness is with the setting

General -> Accessibility -> Display Accommodations -> Reduce White Point

That takes some of the brightness down a notch

You can add this to a triple click of the side button too so you can easily reduce the brightness at night and then turn it back to normal in the day :) Just google it :)

That's somewhat different than the reduce white point setting.
