Having some weird problems on my new intel imac...
Downloading many .zip or .dmg files gives me "verification failed" on the resulting file.... Even loading repeatedly.
Loading exactly the same file on my old g3 works fine...
As an example, can someone with a new intel mac try these and see if they mount and dezip respectively?
the free real player (choose the seattle server)
http://http:www.real.com

limewire
http://maverick.limewire.com/download/LimeWireOSX.dmg

Cos they both work on my old mac and both fail to verify once downloaded on my new intel imac (from safari or firefox).
Thanks.

Try downloading on your G3 extracting it and them transferring the uncompressed file.

I had a similar problem with a download for my Powerbook. Could never make it work.

How weird

Yep, if i download the files on my g3 and then transfer them to my intel, I can extract them fine...
If this works on bakedbeans intel then its not an intel problem either.
I also found that if i download the same file say ten times, one of those times it will be uncorrupted...
What on earth could cause this?
Bakedbeans, maybe you can try downloading that limewire one ten times in a row for me?

Stranger and stranger

Turns out that just about any zipped dmg or sit file i download on the new mac is corrupted....
If i download on my g3 and then copy it over the network to the new imac though, it's fine, and unzips/mounts/whatever just fine.
Does anyone have any ideas here??

(Same internet connection on both machines by the way).

Normal troubleshooting rules apply..

Log in as another user and try to download the same thing.

Thanks.
Pretty much solved, or narrowed down at least

OK, here's the deal. On my intel machine, as soon as I switch on Internet sharing (i'm sharing my ethernet connection over my airport), then downloads ON THAT MACHINE are corrupted. Downloads on the machine using the wifi connection are fine.
If I log out and use a different user on my intel machine, then I don't have the problem...
Now, are there any really clever mac heads out there who know osx well enough to work out how i can fix it, other than moving all my data to a new user and then deleting the old one??

What POS

Fraid im using nuffink funny at all... don't even know what a speed downloader is.
Where would i see the logs, and what should i be looking for?
The console says
"Jan 30 22:32:52 nick /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Resources/airport: Error: WirelessCreateScanResults() = 88001003
Jan 30 22:34:25 nick mDNSResponder: Repeated transitions for interface en1 (10.0.2.1); delaying packets by 5 seconds"

when i turn the sharing on...

Is that what you were asking for?

It is, but it doesn't really help.

I don't use Internet Sharing ever, because it's completely infeior to a cheap wifi router. Why it's happening, I couldn't even begin to say. Packets arriving out of order?

So you're saying if you log in as another user and turn on Internet Sharing, then it works fine?

I downloaded limewire a couple of days ago onto my Intel iMac no probs.
EDIT: I think we may have gotten past the 'Does it work for you?' question bit. Note to self: Don't skim through the last few posts.

Sorry, just checked that again, and no it fails under a new user too... I just got lucky last time. So it always fails, on the intel mac, once internet sharing is turned on... Works fine on the G3 tho with the same version of tigger...

Oh well, never mind. Guess i'll just turn it off and leave it off!

Thanks anyway.
