Weird FaceTime battery issue - thoughts?

A friend of mine has been having issues with her phone. iPhone XS, and it's not charging past 80%. I asked her, and she said it was running hot when charging, so that explains that. But she was unsure why it was running hot, so I did some digging. (Battery health is at 98%, so that wasn't an issue either.)

As I said, it's not charging past 80%, and it's draining QUICK. So I asked her to send me her battery settings.



As you can see, 21 hours screen on in the last 24 hours. It's basically full on activity, despite her being asleep for a lot of that time. So, I asked for the app data.



FaceTime has 14.5 hours of ON SCREEN time, not background time, despite her only having made one hour-long FT call in the last 24 hours. I told her to turn of background app refresh, but that wouldn't explain why there's 14 hours of on-screen time.

Any ideas? I think she's a bit creeped out now thinking that her FaceTime has been running all this time and someone's spying on her lol.

Personally I would be taking the iPhone into Apple under warranty.
You already know this is not normal.

May be FT is simply hanging? Restart iPhone and see if it goes away.
Backup and reinstall iPhone as new and restore from backup. Should help if FT is incorrectly installed and is hanging.
If not, trip to Apple may help.

Yeah, that seemed to be the issue. No resets helped, but signing out of iCloud and everything relating to it seems to have fixed the issue. Very odd.

Do you have the image of % used? Under FaceTime it might say something useful.

Is there any chance people were calling her or she was calling other people via FaceTime audio? FaceTime audio isn't too terrible with the battery unless you have bad radio reception and in that case its really bad. Even if FaceTime is initiated from the phone app it counts toward FaceTime.

If the phone was charging at the same time as using FaceTime with poor signal it will get hot.

If the phone gets too hot it will limit its charge to 80% to protect the battery from overheating.

Have her check settings > cellular and look for cellular data usage for FaceTime just to make sure it was on wifi when whatever happened happened.
