Weird graphical glitch in Safari; seen it?

Hey all,

I just purchased a MacBook Air (mid-2012) and installed Mountain Lion on it the day it arrived. Unfortunately, following the installation of what should be a solid operating system, I encountered a strange graphical issue in Safari.

As you can see, on the edges of rounded design the browser seems to render things incorrectly. It only happens on three websites that I know of: The Verge, MacRumors, and Twitter. Sometimes there's even a line running through parts of the design.

I'd like to assume this is an issue with the operating system itself, but I reinstalled it completely -- from scratch. It didn't happen when I first used the computer with Lion and Safari 6.0 installed, but it suddenly appeared now.

The issue exists in no other browsers. I've tried Chrome, Firefox, and Opera and can find no problems at all, which leads me to believe that there isn't a problem with the hardware.

I have two questions: (1. have you seen it before? (2. should I contact Apple or try yet another clean install of Mountain Lion?

As I said, I restored the entire operating system. I reset Safari before doing so, however, and it didn't work. I'll be sure to report it and thank you.

Oh, you are so lucky thats all that you found wrong with Mountain Lion.I have found several small but significant little problems that need to be adjusted.I've done a total re-install of ML and it has been working alittle better but thats it!Its
a real shame though cause since the beginning of July I have been waited patiently for this really Suped-up, Great New Mac Operating System to finally come out and have it installed into my fairly new iMac,kind of like treating myself as well as my computer,and what happens? All kinds of S@%T!!!None of the 3 previous Operating Systems gave me any problems...nothing.Everything
seemed to run pretty well on my machine. But all this hype for what? It wasn't worth the wait,it really wasn't.

I have this issue too in my MacBook Air 13" 2012. I believe it's a regression in the core layout or graphics rendering with the WebKit 2 engine in Safari 6.0.

Well, if it's the same model as my computer then it could also be related to only that model and not others. In any case, I've let Apple know about the issue.

I'm seeing the same thing with a new 13" Macbook Pro running 10.8. Thought this was an issue with the CSS for a web app I'm building, but couldn't recreate it on an iPad2 nor another 13"incher running 10.6.8.

Good to know I'm not crazy...

Yes, I have this on my rMBP. It's a glitch with the Intel HD 4000. Switching to the NVIDIA GT 650M resolves this issue.

You don't need to contact Apple. Just wait for a software update.

Same Problem Here

I just got my MB Air with Mountain Lion pre-installed and noticed the same issue in Safari 6 (along with many other Safari 6 rendering issues across multiple machines). I'm a web designer/developer and am going nuts!
It's a big issue on my pixarportal.com website. The borders around my article boxes just stop part way around the box, and I have weird border-radius problems with my blue buttons in the right column, there are little white pixel-dots in the borders of the rounded corners.

It seems a general WebKit problem, not limited to Safari. I've seen a similar issue with random vertical lines appearing on one specific website on both Safari and Chrome (both latest versions) on a 2012 11" MacBook Air. No problem on my 2011 one.

I have the same problem, even in Mountain Lion 10.8.1. I also get flashes in the background of a photo displaying in Facebook. Only in Safari.

Those of you with discrete GPUs, uncheck the graphics card switching in your Energy Saver system preferences and quit. Open a new Safari window and visit the same pages - rounded corners look fine, page elements render correctly. Go back to Energy Saver system preferences and CHECK the box and quit. Open a new Safari window and bam - the problems are back.

Whether this is an actual problem with the GPU or a problem with how Mountain Lion communicates with the GPU, I don't know. But switching to discrete graphics fixes the problem. This "solution" does not bode well for owners of the Air and other models that do not have a discrete GPU.

I think it must be an issue with Safari and the integrated graphics. Same pages load fine in Chrome.

Yup, defo graphics switching issue. Happens on Sky Sports website.

I can confirm that I have the same issue with Safari on 10.8 with my new rMBP.

This happen most of the time on gmail. It's very annoying. At first, I thought that it was a problem with my laptop but I don't see it happen in either Chrome or Firefox.

I hope it will be fix soon as I plan to use Safari iCloud tab a lot when IOS6 is release.

I have the same issue. I noticed it when I was trying to type out replies here on MR. This issue only start happening after I updated to 10.8.1
