I bought my 21.5" iMac back in August when the new batch launched.
It has been working fine until a few days ago..
I noticed a weird sound after I switched it on...
I tried to restart it but the noise is still here..
It goes away after.. around 20 - 30 minutes of usage..
But I am still very paranoid as to what has caused the sound!

Attached is a video where I managed to capture this weird noise...
p.s there are construction noises in between but the HD noise is still very evident.

What should I do???

Thats the fan, not hard drive. Ring up AppleCare if it bothers you.

Defiantly the fan. You're machine is under warranty, bring it to apple and they will replace the fan.

thanks a lot for your help.
It doesn't bother me that much as the sound goes away after 15 or so minutes
but I am just scared that it might cause damage to my machine or sth
is it a problem?
of course, i don't mind bringing it back to apple to fix it, but only if its necessary. this thing is heavy man...

it seems to bother you , so why the hesitation to go to apple and get it fixed as you got apple care and exact thats the reason someone gets apple care , just for the case if something doesn't work like it should ,ok if you can live with it , but if a fan starts making noises it wont be too long before it fails and that could cause trouble , especially when it happens after your apple care ends in two years and you have to pay for the fix ;)

so dont wait until its to late , if you would hear a sound that unusual and wasn't there before coming from your car , you would not wait until the car breaks down would you?
