I have a MacBook Air running macOS Monterey. There are three computer users, all with their own Apple IDs. Two of the users (one is mine) are administrator accounts. When I go into the app store, three apps need to be updated. When I click on update all, it asks me to enter an Apple ID password, but it comes up with one of the other users Apple ID email addresses and doesn't let me change it to my Apple ID, so I can't update the app. Sadly I can't sign in with the other user's Apple ID as they died last year, and I have no idea what their password was.

Is there some way to update the apps or move them to my Apple ID to update them myself?

Thanks for any help.

In this, and most cases, you have use the ID that originally purchased or downloaded the app. It’s an anti piracy thing. You might try connecting the App Store and explain the situation. They might take pity on you but most likely you’ll have to buy the app again on your own ID.

Their reasoning will be: if your friend let you use his car when he was alive, does that mean you automatically take position of the car when they pass away? I read somewhere that Apple was developing a system where users could bequeath software to heirs. I don’t know if it’s been implemented.

Take a look at this Apple support article about the steps to take when an Apple ID account holder dies.
