Hello everyone,
I will start with the classic "long time reader, first time poster" here.
I own a 4,1->5,1 Mac Pro (dual socket), with a Radeon Pulse RX580 with dual BIOS, with the Orinoco framebuffer and flashed by MacVidCards, running fully patched Mojave. I also have a flashed Titan Bridged TB card. I boot from a nvm volume.
I am extremely happy with the machine.
However, one of the greatest sources of frustration for me is the fact that, even though I have the Orinoco framebuffer, I get no hardware acceleration. So, in the beginning of the month, I decided to give OpenCore a shot following the instructions here and it worked perfectly for two weeks. And WOW - I was so happy! Much better performance for watching and editing videos, hardware encoding for quicktime screen capture, lower power consumption.
Suddenly, I started getting kernel panics (see attached image) every 20 boots or so. Initially, reinstalling OpenCore helped but now it doesn't. I started troubleshooting, trying different versions of OpenCore, always using the template from the post and nada.
So I decided to try things part by part. To my surprise, if I pick the recovery partition during boot, it boots fine. So I tried installing vanilla OpenCore and... it works! Whenever I add WhateverGreen and Lilu to the mix I start having problems (using the versions pointed in the post or newer). But nothing else has changed. I'm using the same versions of WhateverGreen and Lilu as before so I don't understand why it doesn't work.
Any suggestions? I have a bootable mirror of my installation so playing around is fine. My boot arguments for when I tried the whole package are in the screenshot. When I tried only OpenCore, I didn't load a config.plist at all so I just got a screen asking me to choose the boot disk (no icons, only the name of the volume on the top right of the screen).
The only change from when I installed OpenCore that I can remember of was the installation of the Supplemental update.
Thank you!
PS: I don't like getting help without giving anything in return, so please point me to the most pressing issues and I'll be happy to try to help. My Mac Pro is available for experimentation (I own a 1,1 that can get the job done in any case).
edit: I’ve just connected my unflashed RX560 and I get a boot screen and can see the kernel dump. I’m suspecting the new macOS update. Anyone can confirm?
