Since I upgraded to iOS 14 in September, I've been experiencing weird lags and framerate drops when swiping up from the bottom to exit an App on every version of iOS 14(including the latest iOS 14.2). This issue could happen with any app, and restarting the machine does help solve the problem. However, similar issue would happen again after a day.
My hardware is iPhone XS Max(iOS 14.2), battery at 100% and supports peak performance. I’ve tried reseting the device, recovering the device and changing another device, but none of them helped.

Anybody noticed the similar issue?

For me, this problem still exist on iOS 14.3 Beta 2. Extremely annoying.

When swiping up from the bottom, the animation of the process just stuck halfway for a little while.
That is exactly what I am experiencing on my new iPhone 12 Pro, im not sure if its the software or just my phone. It's very annoying to see it sometimes.

Yea, I’ve seen similar reports from all notched iPhone models. But it’s weird that there’s only a very small number of users reporting the similar issue, making it hard for me (and maybe hard for Apple, too) to find the cause of this problem.

MOST of the time when swiping home, it works just fine. Just there are times where it gets stuck for just a tad bit longer, but I notice it isn't as smooth as other times. Im not sure if maybe I just swipe weird or what..

Hope they fix it.

If you don’t mind, could you please answer me the following questiones? I‘m trying to figure out what’s going on.
Do you use an Apple Watch with your iPhone?
Do you use sleep mode at night?
Do you use handoff between an iPad or Mac?
How many widgets do you have on your home screen?
Do you connect to a VPN frequently?

Yea it works fine for MOST of the time, but when it lags it does feel bad.

once I removed widgets from the 2nd Home Screen the whole phone got smoother. Seems Apple is still optimizing

I am not seeing that at all on my 12 Pro Max. I tried opening every app on my phone and swiping around - smooth as silk. I have 43 apps and a widget with 5 screen on home screen one and 48 apps on home screen 2. I opened them all, played solitaire for a bit, then closed them all. I had no hesitation, no stopping half way up when swiping up to clear apps.

Currently running 1OS 14.2.1
Yes, I have it paired to a Watch 6
I do not use sleep mode at night or ever
I do use handoff with both my 2020 MBP and iPad pro
I do use a VPN upon occasion
When I got the phone I used my previous iPhone to move my data/apps to the 12 Pro Max.

I don't know if this helps at all but to me if my iPhone was hanging up like is being described I would be getting a replacement.

Update: I've found a group of people with similar problems

I have the same issue. iPhone 12 Pro on iOS 14.3. In use Apple Watch, do hand off, use sleep mode. No widgets on Home Screen.

Instead of Frankenstein workarounds I’d just prefer apple fixes it. My 2020 iPad Pro, iPhone 12 and AW series 5 all have animation lag and stutters at random times. Particularly bad on the latest updates.

I have also been having this issue on a brand new iPhone 12 Pro Max. I have logged with Apple Support and waiting an appointment. I restored the device fresh but still the issue persists. It’s very annoying, especially on a brand new device.

This is my biggest gripe with the iPhone 12 Pro Max. My iPhone XS Max never had an issue with not activating the app switcher accidently. I do it ALL the time on the 12 and I thought it was just me doing it wrong!!
