Hey Guys,

I'm pretty sure what I am experiencing is a Leopard bug, but just need some opinions. Everytime I go to turn on File Sharing on my Mini, I'll get the beach ball until I force quit. After I shut down or restart the computer, it will remain stuck on the white screen with the apple logo and spinning icon. I then have no choice but to reinstall the OS. I tried to archive and install and also DELETE the entire HD!

I also tried booting into the Install disk CD and repairing permissions and disk and that does not solve the problem.

Any input appreciated!
Thanks

Anyone? I completed erased the partition/drive and installed OS X 10.5 from scratch and it happened again! Will zeroing out the drive and then installing solve it? I am going to try installing Tiger when I get home and see if it happens with 10.4

Never seen the beachballing, but Leopard on our home iMac can connect to the macbook running Tiger but cannot "see" any files (Tiger can see Leopard just fine). It appears to be a bug affecting up to 10.5.2. What is the other OS you're trying to file share?

to my MBP running Leopard! :(

Doesn't make sense then. Leopard should be able to see Leopard just fine. Perhaps it's some hardware problem within the Mini? Is it still under Applecare for you to take it in?

Ok, I've narrowed down the problem.

Basically, I can enable file sharing on the external hard drive. The problem is, anyone can access it even if I mark "no access" for "everyone."

The way to prevent others from accessing files (method I'm using) is by doing a get info on the "Mac Mini" Hard drive (where Leopard is installed) and then checking off "no access" for everyone. As soon as I restart the machine, I get stuck on the white Apple screen with spinning icon.

Any advice?

**This guy is having the same exact issue I am**

Basically, I am trying to share the external HD only to one user (my login and password) and restrict access for anyone else. However, anyone can freely access my Mac Mini's hard drive and other directories.

**EDIT**

After more searching, I figured out that I locked myself out of my own system. WTG ME!

Here is a great dicussion on this topic: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6773708&#6773708
