I had put AppTapp on my iPhone pretty early on, and then when the 1.1.1 debacle happened I decided to take it back to factory settings and update. I figured I'd have to eventually and I didn't want to have to worry about my phone breaking when I was forced to update later on.

Everything is working fine, I've had no problems with the 1.1.1 firmware up until today and I updated a few days after it came out. Today after hanging up a call I get an error message saying something like "Invalid SIM inserted." I tried to make a call and I get another error saying "Call failed, Invalid SIM inserted." I was pretty freaked out, but mostly I was pissed because the update had gone fine and the phone was working normally. I restarted the phone, got nothing. Turned the phone off, took out the AT&T SIM card, reinserted, turned it on, and everything was fine.

WTF? This seems pretty bad, especially because it is my only phone. Has anyone seen anything like this? Do you think it warrants a trip to the Apple store for an exchange?

Thanks for reading.

Sounds like maybe a bad sim card. If you do go to the Apple store be sure to do a restore before you go. You'll have to reload AppTap and all your aps later but I'm suspecting it could be a hardware issue.

Just to clarify

I now have a totally legit 1.1.1 version iPhone. I cleared everything off before I updated and now have a completely stock phone running the new 1.1.1 software. I never had a glitch like this before, and I am also noticing some other things mentioned in this forum such as the play icon staying on, and the home button being unresponsive.

Think it's enough for the Apple store to give me a new one? Or is it a software issue that will be fixed in the next update? I'm pretty frustrated with Apple right now, I really can't see how this would have been any different had I not loaded the 3rd party apps.

its probably just a software glitch or bug that will be fixed in the next update. Don't be mad at Apple. Remember this their first phone and it will have some problems just like when u buy a new model car. This is the price we pay when we buy first generation products. I had a battery issue with my first phone and the apple store replaced it with a brand new one out of the box. It was fresh off the production line because it was already updated to 1.1.1 and the battery was fully charged. I've only had the play icon up a couple times. U know its a bug and will be fixed on next update. Just relax and enjoy ur phone and Apple will fix it.
