Hello all

I got a new iMac and I do like it and enjoy it.

But suddenly a problem has surfaced.

The mouse has begun to rapidly click the middle button in succession.

I figured out it was the middle button because the Expose was switching windows or going to desktop.

So I disabled the middle button and Expose in preferences.

But the mouse is still clicking away.
SOmetimes it stops for a while, after I haven't used ot for a bit.

But when I use it, one click begins many others.
THen is escalates to a constant speedy clicky symphony.

I switched the mouse from my MacPro that I know works fine and the same dysfunction.

ANyone else have this problem?
ANy help is certainly welcome.

THanks

Mmm

Thanks for the advise

I made a new user and have been using it for a few minutes and at first it was fine , then it happened once.

SO if its okay in a new user then its the software but if it still does it in new user then it's hardware?

Update!! It does it all the time in new user also!

Now what,, new iMac ;(

I had this exact problem on my MBP. I ended up restoring the machine from the discs and it stopped occuring. You can try to have Apple swap out the mouse, but it may be a software problem as in my case.

yeah it's not the mouse because as I said it still happens with another mouse from my Mac Pro, and the iMac mouse works fine with the MacPro, so it's the computer.

I tried a new user and still its happening,

I thought that if it was a software issue then it would go away with a new user, but maybe that isnt true, guess it depends on where the problem is.

I think that I will try reformatting when all else fails.

Trying to fix it and save reformatting for when the new OS comes out.

my mouse clicks by itself!

I have the same problem!
My iMac is about 5 months old and the mouse just clicks by itself. I can take my hand off of it and you can hear it just clicking away. It happens while I'm working and causes me to select and click on things that I'm not trying to. It is a daily occurrence and happens often throughout the day.

2 months after experiencing this - I bought a new mac mouse thinking it would solve the problem - not wireless (neither of them are). Same problem. Both of these mice do not have this problem on a G5 tower, my co-workers computer.

I do not believe it's the mouse considering the above info.

I cannot seem to find anyone ANYONE other than the poster above me that has this problem. Nor can I find a solution.

Help anyone?

If you put your hand on the base of the imac does it continue to do this? I had the same issue and it appears to be a grounding issue. I went through two wired might mice. Changed to wireless mighty mouse and no issue. I also could use a logitec wired mouse without issue. It only occurred with the wired might mouse

Just happened to me!

just bought the new iMac November 7th...and this is happening to me too.

can anyone confirm how this was fixed?

i've updated all of the available updates, but it seemed to happen after I installed iwork08. I don't have time machine, so i'm going to start removing programs in the order they were installed to see if that helps. I don't think it will, but c'mon, this shouldn't be happening to a new imac...embarrasing

Mouse won't stop clicking by itself

I have the same issue. I bought a new Imac and the scroll button kept clicking by itself. It did this even when my had was not near it. I exchanged that computer for another one. After about three weeks.....same issue but with the side buttons. They keep clicking without me touching them. Any suggestions on how to solve this would be greatly appreciates. I can't imagine I am the only one experiencing this as it happened on two different computers.

I have the same issue!

After reading this post I have figured out my problem at least. I do believe that it is a grounding issue. I also have an iMac 2008 and out of no where I my mouse was clicking not stop. I tried the mouse on my macbook pro and no problems. I also have a blue tooth mouse and it works on the iMac no problem. So I hooked the wired mighty mouse back up to the computer and started unplugging my components from the computer. Turns out it was my external hard drive that was causing. As soon as I unplug the external hard drive it worked. The hard drive was plugged into another outlet that could be on a different circuit. Not sure if that makes a difference but it did in my case.

hope this helps.

Same Problem

i have the same problem with my mac mouse...its just that the mac apple mouses arent the best....what i did was change it to a USB Wireless Mouse...
