Weird noise-issue(not fans)

Hi,

I´m on my third iMac now and having the same problems I had with my previous two machines, every now and then when I drag an image from iPhoto to the desktop or do a print screen with shift-apple-3 instead of playing the sound effects it should, my speakers scream! If I have iTunes playing the music will continue but with no sound. Sometimes instead of the screaming theres a loud "crackling" sound and the speakers go silent, after a couple of seconds theyre back again. Anyone else have this problem, or heard of it? I really dont know what to do anymore.

wow, i have never had any of those problems with iMacs or any mac. Are you using the built-in speakers or external ones?

No external speakers just the built in ones

this has happened to all of your iMacs, were they the same model or something like, the box, the swivel neck, the g5, etc. If that was it, it might be software, if it was all the same, g5, etc. then it might be a rev problem. I'll check the software on my g5 imac to see if there are any speaker related calibration things on it. I'll get back to u if so.

I couldn't find anything on my iMac. But, i will try to recreate the problem on it and see what happens.

I don't seem to have any problems with the built in speakers, what version iMac g5 do you have? How many GHz and ram? does it have the built-in iSight? What version of iPhoto?

Its the built in iSight version, 17 inch with 1.5 gb RAM. iLife06. But I had this issue with iLife 05 installed too, ive tried different ac outlets and a clean install, the last two machines were declared doa and my guess is this one will be too. But I was hoping it might be something else...I´m so sick and tired of spending my days on the phone with apple.

Ok, my tests were on a 1.8 GHz rev a (i think), 512 MB RAM, and iLife '05. My best guess now is that something may be interferring with the speakers externally. If you tried them all in the same location, it might be a magnet of some sort or a wireless phone, cell phone, or anything else that is similar. I think the magnet is the most likely out of all of those, because i'm not sure if wireless interferes with the speakers. I'm sorry but i don't think i can help you any further than i have. But, if i find anything that will help i will tell you. If you get a refund for your macs instead of a replacement you might be better off getting the intel iMac.
