weird option key problem

I'm having a problem that seems to be baffling many. When I work in Illustrator or In design and I press the option key for a dollar sign everything I type after that is a alternate letter or symbol... this happens across the system so I can't type and email an addy or a website. also when I press the option key when I go to key stroke "copy" and "paste"...the image I copy has multiplied with every move. Can someone please help?:confused:

Maybe you have StickyKeys turned on.

+ Go to System Preferences > Universal Access
+ Select the Keyboard tab
+ Make sure the "Press the Shift key 5 times to .." option is not turned on
+ Make sure StickyKeys is set to Off.
