Writing this to see if anyone also had this issue,

Yesterday I attempted to change some of my screentime settings but my pin wouldn't work. I tried everything because I only really use 2 different pins for the last 10 years and I was positive it was the same pin, but my iPhone and iPad both didn't accept it.

I spent hours trying to extract it, even using https://www.iphonebackupextractor.com (which didn't work!) or manually trying to hack into my back ups to recover it.

I then restored my iPad to an older back up but it still wouldn't work. I got all the way up to "wait 60 minutes" before guessing the new password after trying every combination I could think of, mistypes of my typical pin, 1234, etc. on both devices.

Surprising, I woke up this morning to try again, and my iPhone was fixed - the pin was actually turned off (I could set a new one). I didn't change anything and it would appear this just happened overnight.

The iPad is still broken though but I'm going to wait I guess in case it fixes itself.

This appears to be a straight up bug which could have some consequences because not knowing this pin code could prevent some essential features, for example you can not wipe your iPhone.

Does anyone have a similar experience or have heard of this?

Yes, I have seen this as well. My PIN doesn't work for a day, and then same pin works the next day. Was driving me bonkers as well. Let me know if you are able to figure anything..

This may or may not be related.

My partner attempted to set up Screentime on her two iOS devices. When she selects share across devices on her iPhone it works fine. When she selects share across devices on her iPad it asks for her pin (four digits). She doesn’t use a pin, she uses a 12 digit alphanumeric password. She tried various combinations of four digit passcodes that she used many many years ago but it won’t accept any of them.

At this point the only solution I have for her is to erase her iPad and set it up from new again. She hasn’t done that yet so I’m not sure it will work.
