Earlier this week I noticed on my iPhone 12 Pro a little black notch like indent on the left part of my screen. The screen has no damage that I can see. I’m wondering if this is a failing screen or a software issue. My phone is up to date running 16.1 and this has persisted through a software update as well. If this is in fact a screen defect would Apple replace the screen even though it is out of warranty? I’ve attached a photo of the issue

It certainly looks like it.
😂 In all seriousness, though I'd take it to Apple if you can. They might want to charge you some crazy amount for an out-of-warranty repair unless you have AppleCare, so you'd have to weigh your options. For several hundred dollars or whatever it might be best just to leave it be for now. But yeah, definitely not normal.

Yeah my plan is to leave it alone unless i see it start to grow in size. It’s off to the edge of the screen so it’s not something thats super noticeable a majority of the time. I know I am subject to fees due to expired warranty and no Applecare. I’m tempted just to take it up there though just to see what they think of it and maybe they would deem it replaceable on them. In the past I’ve had good luck just being honest and had things repaired or replaced even out of warranty.

If nothing else it would be interesting to know what it is.
And it never hurts to ask.
