weird sleep issue?!

hey guys, i really need your help on this one! I will put my macbook (black 2ghz) to sleep by closing the lid, and it'll go to sleep as it should...however when i go to open the lid sometimes i'll get a kernel panic, or i'll hear the HD spin up but the screen will remain black and i'll have to take the battery out to restart it. I've tried repairing the permissions and resetting the PMU (should i try again?) any ideas/ thoughts?

Are there any third party peripherals plugged in? If not, then I'd take it back to Apple.

none are plugged in and thats definitely not what i need to hear man... with 3 papers due next week alone and stuff going on all the time, I cant get away from my dorm long enough for the 1.5 hour trek to the nearest apple store just to have it taken away...is there anything possible that i could try first?

Well, I really think it's a hardware issue but I guess there's a tiny chance it's a slightly bad connection between the battery and the machine. You could shut it down, take the battery out, and then plug it in again.

Alternatively, if it's the battery that's the problem, then you could run it from the mains power with the battery unplugged. I wonder if it'll still kernel panic.

Hey Justin, don't want you to feel alone...I have the same problem (well, sort-of). I don't have to take the battery out to restart it --I can hold the on/off button down and restart...but it's been going on for a couple of months now. (Right. So I 'should' have gone to my Apple Store by now..)
