Weird small circles

I suddenly have weird small circles at the left lower corners of my mail and phone icons. Anybody else have run across these and know what they signify and how to get rid of it

It is the new badges from the new version of backgrounder. You can disable them in the preferences. There have been multiple threads on this. Please search first. Thanks.

I thought it was part of the windows 7 theme now I feel stupid.
