In the middle of the night I woke up to the Mac bootup sound realizing it was restarting after it was asleep. I got up to check what was going on and it was on... why did my macbook pro restart while it was sleeping? Also my iPhone was connected to it as well and when I checked that out it was completely shut off for some odd reason... can anyone explain this to me?

seeing as how the iPhone was off too, it sounds like an AC power issue. if you're like me, under my desk is a powerstip plugged into another, all maxed out. sometimes the strip just resets.

Hopefully it's that simple and not a software issue.

Actually my laptop was connected to the power strip at the time. So if that's the case, is there anyway I could avoid that next time? How did it just max out? I appreciate the help. Thanks.

but as mentioned above, unless (1) the battery was out and (2) the compouter is set to automatically reset after a power loss, this should not have happened even if the strip reset itsself. I for got we were talking about a new laptop. I've got two PowerMacs on my strip along with a TiBook with no battery so this happens for me but should probably not for you.

Oh ok, I guess that does makes sense. But what could of cause the restart and the shutdown of my iPhone? Weird... Al Qaeda perhaps?

Mine was asleep last night as well, and although it didn't restart itself, my stereo did. The MBP was plugged into the stereo at the time. So, it wasn't quite the same, but still a random shut off and restart of the stereo (which has NEVER happened before). The ghosts must have got confused by the influx of electronic equipment going on in my bedroom. :p And no, it wasn't a power failure at home. Also, the stereo isn't plugged into a power strip, just straight into the wall. If the power is cut, it won't turn back on by itself. I was weirded out by that one!
