weirdest thing happened

i dunno if this is new or everyone already knows bout it, but when i stacked one macbook air on top of the other with the bottom one sleeping, the one stacked on top also goes to sleep even if it was turned on. i tried this on a friends macbook air and this happens.
is it coz of the magnetic fields in the hard drive?
anyone with 2 macbook airs on hand should definitely try this.

It may be the magnetic sensor that detects the unit is shut. Try it while slowly lifting up the front of top unit and see if it awakes from sleep. You can also make it go to sleep by taking a magnet and holding it near sleep light.

Even if NC MacGuy's theory is correct, this falls into a category of problem that I called "SDDT" when I used to write KnowledgeBase articles for Microsoft... SDDT articles described problems that could only occur if you did something really weird and/or stupid where it looked like you were actively seeking trouble. For example, putting aviation fuel in the gas tank of your VW Beetle; sure, you can do it, but why would you?

"SDDT" was an homage to an old Groucho Marx bit:

Patient: "Doc, it hurts when I do this."
Doc: "So don't do that."

In this case, I think the solution is obvious: Don't stack your MBAs.
