weired macbook pro issue

I am a student,and I had my macbook pro out for a few minutes betweek classes, and then put it away to walk to my next class. When I reached into my bag to get it back out the bag was noticably warm, and when I got the MBP out it was scalding and the fan was blasting! I had made sure that when I put the computer away it had gone into sleep mode, as I have had issues witth it not sleeping, and just shutting down. Has anyone else had a similar experience, and does anyone know what might have caused it? When I had it open I only had mail and the finder open.
When I got it oout of my bag I let it sit open for a while and could not get the screen to come on or the computer to reset, so after the fan had run for a whil, I pulled the battery, and now everything seems to be working fine.

So basically you left it switched on in your bag?

The air intakes for the fans will no doubt of been blocked and the MBP over-heated. I STRONGLY urge you not to do that or you new MBP will be an expensive paper weight. If it overheats to much it will damage the motherboard and will cost a fortune to fix.

Turn it off (without pulling the battery)

So basically you left it switched on in your bag?

That is what you do with laptops, you close them and put them in your bag. Don't act so surprised.

Anyway, the overheating and fan stuff is a known issue with the MBP. I do not have an MBP, but I have read enough of these threads to recognize the symptoms.

Do a search on the forums and you should find what other people have done about this problem. I think there is a firmware upgrade available for the MBP.

I had something similar happening to my macbook. Unplugged and closed it assuming it would go to sleep, then carried it around for two hours and when I came home noticed my backpack was really warm. Opened it, heard the fan going like crazy and saw that the display was still on. So basically the thing didn't go to sleep for two hours, packed up tightly between heaps of paper, which as we know is a good insulator. I'm surprised the battery lasted that long.

I agree with seattle and gimmeslack, it's not our fault when the thing doesn't go to sleep. Anyway, since then I always put it to sleep manually before packing it up.
