Well, I don't need to calibrate the battery

So I broke down and decided to get a 15" MacBook Pro. I am turning my systems over more quickly than I used to so I decided to buy one now thinking that I would get a system that had all the bugs worked out.

Yeah, right.

When I checked I discovered my system was built five months ago. Uh oh I thought, wasn't there a battery recall on the 15" systems? Yep the battery is on the list. Yipee, I'm going to get brand new battery to replace the brand new battery in my brand new system. And now I'm prowling the net to try to figure out what, if anything, can be done about that blasted whine.

So here I am with a new system I had presumed would have had all the bugs worked out of it, only to receive a buggy system.

Ah well, you know what they say about the best laid plans.
 
How did you find out your system was built 5 months ago? I dont understand how people know whether their machine is "Rev A" or whatever. :confused:
 
i got my machine 3 weeks ago and the battery isn't on the list of those recalled. how do you know yours is 5 months old?
 
If you have a BT mouse, try using it. It takes care of the whine on my MPB for some odd reason. As for the battery... Im on #3. Good luck to ya.
 
I'm pretty sure you can go to apple< about this mac< more info then look by the serial number the 4th digit in is the week ur mbp is made

example mine is W86231DXWBJ so I'd be a week 23?
 
Do what i did, return it under your two week cool off period. There was no way i was keeping a whining system and no way i was going to let them crack my brand new laptop open to replace the logic board.

The whine is supposed to be fixed in newer laptops. Tell them you want a new replacement or your money back. Simple as that. Personally I'd go for money back and wait for the new updates which should be hitting the shores in the next 3 weeks or so.

If it's good then it's good, if it's bad it's bad. Not much more i can say.

As for BT mouse lowering whine. That works alright because the BT is draining the battery faster and the laptop isn't getting into its highest power saving mode. If you want to lose battery life then that's your choice. As i said before, personally i didn't and don't want a laptop that whines period.

so i hear this sounds from the 17 MBP... it can't be the speaker, because i have external speaker pluged in... it's very soft, but definitely detectable.. i usually have my laptop pluged in on AC, battery taken out... the sounds is usually there, but occasionally it disappear for a second or so...

can someone tell me if the whine is supposed to be w/ AC or w/ battery, also how loud is the whine (i'm just trying to see if this is the whine everyone's talking about).. because altho my whine is there, it does'nt bother me too much, most of the time my room has more than enough soudn to cover that (from music, game, etc etc)

The whine is difficult to describe, but it's definately a whine. It emits from below the Esc / F1 / F2 keys. (on the MacBook at least)

The whine, in my experience, does appear and disappear depending on your processor load. If your processor is working hard, the whine disappears. When it's taking a break, it's back again.

If you are hearing a faint hissing sound, that is your Harddrive. Panic over!

it's something of high pitch, low volume... i've seen ppl saying they can hear it across from the room, i didn't try, but i doubt i could hear that across from the room... and i couldn't really pin point that it's from esc/f1/f2 keys... but are there any solution to this? logic board replacement?

is it loud, is it sharp?

Yes it does sound like you have the whine issue.

Apparently Apple can help you, there is a page on MacBook Pro support that tells you to contact AppleCare.

Maybe a Logic Board replacement yes.

if this is the page you were refering to, it's only for 15" tho
