After a night out on the town (and a few drinks later), I headed back to my hotel room and went to sleep. Upon awakening, I noticed that my iphone had two deep scratches on the bottom right of the screen. Thinking they were smudges, I began wiping furiously, but to no avail. I don't remember dropping the phone at all, but perhaps it banged up against something sharp (indicitive of the design of the scratches) which I must have done hard enough to mark the tempered glass. Is there any way to "buff" the scratches out? Or will this simply be the point in which I don't obsess over every mark on my phone? Thanks guys for any help!

Care to post any pictures?

I am sure not to be the only one who is curious what the scratches look like. Soon enough I am sure to scratch mine as well.

I don't remember a single document from Apple stating the the iPhone was scratch proof.

DRUNK!!!!! SO how can u remember?

Well, I wasn't technically THAT drunk, but point taken. And yes, I do realize that apple never said that the iphone was "scratch proof," but the tempered glass does provide some scratch resistance.

Agreed.

You were drunk and you can't remember what happened.

Sorry to say but it's not like it was "accident" even though it probaly was, you shouldn't have been so careless.

I love the responses to this post in the form of "you got what you deserved, it's clearly your own fault, shouldn't have been so careless", "nowhere is the iPhone documented as being scratch proof".

Some people are just way too serious, we all know the type of personality I'm speaking of. The OP clearly realizes it is his own fault and is just wondering if there is any way to remove scratches, and if not he is willing to take the blame and move on.

This is probably a long shot (because you said they were deep scratches), but you can try this. It is the only glass display scratch remover that has decent reviews on Amazon.

Let us know if you do decide to buy it.

I think there was a general consensus that the iPhone was pretty scratch resistant.
This stuff happens, once when I was faded I managed to fall flat on my side landing on my flip phone. Completely demolished it, and I am a light guy. I wonder what would happen if it was an iPhone? Oh the horror.

Ya I would really appreciate some close up pics if you can get them!

And do let us know if you get the stuff from amazon and how it works!

you know, i have read all of these anecdotal reports of the ability of the screen to take some punishment, with the pc world video being the most famous. I do believe that the screen is durable, but i have always been a freak about scratching and put screen protectors on everything as soon as i get them, ie. iphone, nav.

I don't think the screen looks as pretty, but i accept this tradeoff for the screen protection.

Good luck with your phone; if u wait a bit, i'm sure there will be third party repair shops that will replace the screen for a resonable price.

My first iPhone I got 3 scratches right on the screen within the first 10 days of purchase! I COULD NOT GET PAST IT!!! It drove me so nuts, that I returned it, and bought a new one.

I now have a brand new iPhone, scratch-free, with an InvisibleShield on it to prevent further scratches.

I have NO idea how I got that scratch, considering I have literally taken a BRAND NEW razor blade to an iPhone screen with FULL FORCE, and couldn't scratch it!!! Very strange.

This kind of accident happens to all of us. It reminds me of the time in Boston I ruined a great leather jacket leaning back on a painted wall. However when I walked into a hardware store to get some cleaner, nobody laughed or insulted me. Instead they helped and luckily a guy working at the store once had a job restoring leather. Help given freely is wonderful.

To the few Clacks: how about giving some real help, rather than acting like creepy members of Scientology your demanding proof!!!..get a life...then some blaming the user? Rejoice this person spent money supporting our favorite OS platform. This poster is not saying Apple is rubbish. Asking for help and some of you need to learn some manners.

Anyway this might not fix your problem but First check out an optical glass repair shop. It's amazing what can be fixed. Also failing that with 2 whole long years on a contract why not see if you can pay Apple to replace the glass?

The iPhone is more than a Blackberry it's a statement of style. Like a piece of designer clothing that is ripped for a little money it can always be fixed.

There's always a way if you are willing to pay. Till then you need not send photos as those that demand them will still think you're working for Samsung.

I like your style.

Hey, lucky it was just a couple of scratches on your iPhone.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I don't get too uptight when I get criticized for what I did. Lord knows it was my fault, but for the life of me I can't remember banging it as hard as I did. I'll try to get some pics up, but other than the iphone I don't own a digicam. I'll borrow my roomates so you guys can get a better idea of the damage. Also, I'm probably going to try that scratch remover stuff from amazon. I'll keep you guys posted!

I got a hairline scratch and the phone never left my pocket. Who knows what caused it, but I went out and bought a screen protector. I had to basically argue with the apple store guy because he was swearing up and down that is was scratch proof.

Anything harder than the glass will definitely scratch it.

That being said, I use the crystal film only because I feel easier wiping off whatever gets on the iPhone with it on. Scratches happen, big deal.

I'm still trying to figure out who said/where it's said or quoted that the iPhone is "scratch proof". Cuz all I can find is that it is "scratch resistant". Not many things if anything in this world are "scratch proof" other than maybe diamond(s), which then again can be scratched by using only another form of diamond(s).

Sorry, just busting your balls. Had to do it :)

One.

Call Apple about it - I scratched mine with my Titanium wedding ring and I got a new one in one business day plus a free loaner for the weekend, no questions asked and it didn't cost me a dime. They told me that they don't normally do this, but it's worth giving it a shot. Call 1-800-MY-IPHONE.
