For some reason my macbook's screen looks shattered but i have damaged it and plus its in a speck hard shell.. It also has the colored lines.. Appleare is covering it but im without a computer for a week starting january 2nd. It sucks but at least it boots and im using it. the lines arent bad but the shattered like lines take up one half of the screen going diagonally. But do you guys think they will erase my data? They said it is very unlikely but im not sure..

I had two repairs. One they erased data, one they didn't.

not sure what kind of stuff you'd really need backed up, but just connected an external harddrive and backup ur photos movies documents and pictures in seperate allocated folders and if it comes back with a clean harddrive just import them back onto it.

Why are you debating this. It is simple, does your data matter to you? If the answer is yes, then back it up. If it is no, then do not. Where is the complexity in this issue.

If the damage is on the screen, they might replace it or give you a new computer. Either way hte problem doesn't lie within the hd and maybe you can write a little note telling them to swap the HDs if they do replace your laptop. Even if files are lost, you should still send it in because a "cracked" screen is wack and you can always just back things up.
