Managed to somewhat shatter the screen on my XL 2, probably the longest running pixel nexus device in a long string of not the best experiences with them.

What now? Well, it's just a side device running fi mostly for data and to have a rooted device. Debating on just closing the line, or perhaps pop the sim into the 5a I got laying around but not sure. The XL 2 still works but probably best it's not in a pocket at work.

Also have the 3a I'm using on my primary line. Probably a matter of time before it borks. Job is a little rough ony devices and also have gotten some lemons that don't help things. *Shrugs*

How's everyone? Been a while since I've posted around here, haven't been too into the phone hobby lately 😬

Wow that was an incredible run. I still have my Pixel 2, “Snowball” but wiped it clean last year. I just had too many gadgets around here with access to my accounts. I wiped the ones I wasn’t using regularly. I’m sorry yours went out violently.

I have been on the Macbook part of the forum because I just bought a refurb M1 MacBook Air. I love it!

I am still phone obsessed, as always, but more in the manner of enjoying the hype and rumors more than coveting them.

Damaged screen withstanding, haven't retired this thing just yet though it's trying. Slipped out of my hand in my pocket and to the floor. Every so often a swipe up I'll catch the slightly sperated pieces of screen reminding me it's cracked.

I doubt I could do a screen replacement as I'm not that steady handed and the cost probably won't be worth it.

@GrumpyMom curious on your M1 escapades. I've thought about trying an M1 myself but haven't gotten past the thinking phase.

Not much escapading yet, but playing Sims 4 on it which actually does push it hard. Sims 4 brought the otherwise very capable high spec HP laptop belonging to my late father down with constant crashing. Unfortunately that laptop didn’t have a graphics system for gaming. It’s business oriented so I gave it to my husband. The M1 Air handles everything about Sims 4 so far with ease. I’m talking stuff that usually has my gaming tower fans churning, like long sessions in creating Sims.

I don’t really game on it otherwise. I did get it for light duty work.

I am going to edit videos and photos on the M1 Air but not to the level I need a MacBook Pro.

I have an old Moto G first gen that I turned on last week to see if it worked still. After setting it up, updates and some apps, it ran fairly slow and not a daily for sure. Think is was still on Android 5.1 so some newer apps won't install. But the small size felt good in the hand compared to current large phones.

I still my beloved Nexus One with the trackball, reminds me of the old Blackberry Curve :) Never bought another Google phone after that one as I went with Samsung Note's and a few iPhones.

I've been curious about the Pixel's but continue to hear mixed reviews so never jumped on it again. Would it be worth picking up a used one from Craigslist to use as a primary, which would you recommend?

Out of curiosity, I pulled up ifixit and had a look. New screen kit cost 100 bucks and figure if I go that route and actually try to go through with things, a battery is another 30. Hmmm, perhaps 150 bucks to attempt to repair the XL 2? 🤔

I'm almost certain I'd end up finishing the phone off attempting to repair. Wonder if I should even try if it would even be worth it. Phone does seem to have some life to it, but the OS and it's included software might detect the fix and cause authentication issues elsewhere (glares at apple).

Perhaps I should just retire the device?
