Nice machine there... i'm sure the wife won't kill you lol

I'm actually contemplating buying an iMac (bought a MBP about 2 months ago) for the house but can't seem to part ways with my Core i7 Windows machine (9gb of ddr3).

To steal that machine ;)

Congrats OP, that is a beast of a machine. I think you'll really enjoy it, and it will last you a while:).

Great purchase! With those specs you will be set for years to come. :apple:

Thanks for making me laugh. I needed that.

For me, it was an inital "tough sell" to get my wife to approve a new iMac. We already have an HP Laptop and wife wanted me to get a low cost Win 7 tower box (to replace our "suddenly" broken Windows XP tower box). One night, I showed my wife the Mac Basics - iPhoto program (found on the Apple site). She seen the easy to use iPhoto program and next day, I got approved to order a new iMac. Now (a few days later), my wife is asking when "her new Apple" will arrive. Looks like I'm back to using the HP Win 7 portable and I won't be allowed to touch her future iMac desktop unit. Was going to suggest you show your wife a few iPhoto usage videos but then again, she might "take over" your future iMac as well... (which is very bad!!!)

Congrats on your iMac purchase...

I did the same thing but with the 2TB+SSD. Can't wait. My current machine has lasted 4 years (see sig.), so I expect the iMac to last that long, too.

With all things Apple it seems to be that going all out or going for the base spec is the way forward. Middle of the road seems to be poor value on hardware.

Jaz,

What kind of time for shipping did they give you?

I so want to do this myself but I have an i7 920 Wintel machine with a Radeon 4890. To justify the speed gain I would have to go 2.93.

Do I need a new iMac, heck no. Do I want one, heck yeah, and that monitor!

The only way I can possibly justify the purchase other than selfishness is that I could write it off for business and consolidating a macbook and a wintel machine to one system.

Someone help me hold back, please!

"Delivers Aug 5 - Aug 10"

I Paid the extra $35 for priority shipping, I'm impatient the $35 is worth it for my sanity.
I doubt it will be here the 5th (tomorrow, since I ordered it last night) but I'll settle for the 7th. :)
