Wep Key on a MBP

I have a D-Link G604T and and MBP Core 2 duo.

I have locked the router down via mac addresses and the MBP can access the net.
When I put in the 128 key in the router then in the MBP, the MBP won't connect to the net..

All other Laptops on my network have the key and they work fine....

I have searched but cannot find any known issues, anyone got an idea...?

Are you using a hex string or a "codeword"? Some routers let you enter a "codeword" and they generate a WEP code from that - and the Mac doesn't know the algorithm.

Make sure that you're entering a hexidecimal string in both the router and MB and it should work.

You may want to consider using WPA though. I just switched from WEP128 (because my Winbloze laptop would disconnect randomly with WPA) to WPA2 Personal and the MB has no problems. When I tried to connect to the network, it said "WPA2 Personal detected, enter string" and I entered the same code-word as I used on the router and BAM! off I went. No drops in the connection like Winbloze had either. WPA is considerably more secure than WEP, and WPA2 is even better, and it lets you use a word rather than managing long hex strings.

i agree switch to wpa and you will not have this problem.. assuming you can switch and have that option.

otherwise mac's are just whack in that regard when it comes to wep, i found it odd but thats how it goes

as said above make sure youre constant between router and computer on hexadecimal settings

I ended up changing to WPA and it did the trick.
