Western Digital Scorpio - Kernel Panics?

I've been considering upgrading my MBP's hard drive to a 160 or 120GB 2.5" and Western Digital has the best prices. However, there have been some reports that the motion sensor technology in the HDD causes a kernel panic in Mac OSX. Obviously this is bad if you want to move your laptop around. Has Apple fixed this yet? Or is this ancient news...
