Has anyone played Westward yet? There are only 8 reviews so far, but the game looks pretty neat and I'm thinking of getting it if the gameplay turns out to be good.

I like it. The gameplay is very good, much better than when I had it on my N95. The touchscreen makes control a lot easier and the screen of the iPhone makes the play area easier to view/navigate.

The start of the game is a nice tutorial, which explains the controls very well and then you are let loose in the main game, to pretty much do as you please. There are plenty of challenges to keep you occupied and the actual role playing is pretty much entirely up to you.

A good game for those that like the genre.

Is it anything like civ? That's what I've been waiting for... a civ clone. Preferably ported from the palm platform, as those were the best I've played.

No, not really. There isn't the trading with others aspect. You have mining (for gold), tree felling, food production (scavenge, grow), irrigation, law and order (bandits, drunks etc), disasters (fire, plague, tornado, drought) and then building sufficient homes for settlers, places of employment, amusement, as well as the tasks thrown at you. But it's not empire building.

indeed looks sweet - i too keep hoping for a civ game but... that is fine even without it yet.

I just bought this game and played it for the better part of yesterday. I posted my review on it here (for those interested):

The game is incredibly detailed and will kill a huge chunk of time each time you play it, but in all an excellent game.
