Wet iPhone Home and On/Off Buttons don't work

My brand new iPhone 3G S got wet and I left it to air dry, hoping it would work the next day. I plugged it in and the screen came on except much darker than usual. I was still able to text people and receive calls. However, both the home and on/off buttons don't work and the indicator in the headphone jack turned half red. I can only use it when I either plug or unplug it (or when receiving calls and texts). Is there any way I can get Apple to repair it? I heard I might be able to get it replaced for 200 bucks?

Water damage voids your warranty, obviously Apple can tell via the half red water sensors.

Apple offers a $199 replacement on iPhones due to water damage. Go to your local Apple store and get it replaced.

I know someone who's spilled water on their phone twice. So far. Both times I was able to take the phone, stuff it into a baggie with instant rice and wait three days and it worked just fine again. At first the screen was trashed, it wouldn't turn off and apps didn't run correctly, if they ran at all. By the third day, both times, everything was fine. If you can go a few days without it or you have a spare phone, it might save you a couple hundred dollars.

Sounds like you made a freudian slip there,


However, it's a good point. Bag of dried rice/silica gel + iPhone helps get the water out of your iPhone. The rice/silica gel helps siphon out the water and abosrb the moisture.

You can try that trick to see if it will help. Do not use a hair dryer or heat source, it'll just make it worse.

and dont try to pass it off, because the outside sensors are white. You may forget there are also 3 inside...hehe
