Well, it’s been over three weeks since I’ve been working from home. I did not get to bring my work issued MacBook Pro home in time, and all we have at home is iPads and iPhones. This pandemic is really testing my iOS only lifestyle here. Anyone else in this boat? Honestly, other than screen size, and a few quirks in apps, it’s not that bad. I bought the magic keyboard 2 and magic track pad 2, and with 13.4, I feel like I have a very tiny iMac. The iPad has become so modular, it can be my work device for an hour or two and my relaxing device on the couch.

Here’s the current setup - a work in progress.
And yeah that’s a baby monitor there.

Windows 10 will be mandatory for us for telecommuting so I'm actually ordering an Intel NUC desktop from Newegg.

Same here. I've been trying to get Duet Display to work with MS remote desktop app. I can get Duet Display to work, but once i'm in Remote Desktop, i have no idea how to setup up second monitor.

Blah. Windows. I’m sorry. I’m a teacher, and we have to use Google. At least there’s some freedom is the devices we can use.

Thanks for sharing your setup - is this built into a cabinet or something like that?

Yeah. one of the previous owners of the house we live in built it. Quite the handyman.

Actually at work we can use all 3 major OS - Windows, Linux, macOS. Mas are expensive though so they do not offer Macs for everyone in the team but just within some percentage (meaning 1 or 2 persons). The rest we either use Windows or Linux and basically have work issued laptops. We were specifically warned to take our work issued laptops every day at home with us so that in case of social distancing we can work from home appropriately.

iPads are not so much used in my company so I do not have co-workers using iPads officially for work. I use my personal iPad but it is more about me sketching and brainstorming stuff before making the presentations, documents that I share.

Luckily we (as company) were prepared for the teleworking as we had the work from home setup anyway. It was just 1 day per week and now it expanded to all days in the week for everyone. And people did not need to buy anything in addition to be able to work from home. We even allow people take a monitor from the office as we usually work with two monitors setup and a 14 inch laptop. Given that the laptop screen is not super big, we are also allowed to bring home a monitor as well as second keyboard, mouse and stuff like that. In other words at least for the setup in terms of tech we do not need to use personal stuff. In fact it is not encouraged as it might be security risk.

What I have issues with is the lack of nice and comfy chair. I was not prepared for that.

I just completed a pretty cool setup for my new 12.9 iPad Pro. I have a Windows 10 instance in the cloud via Paperspace. I created shortcuts to start/stop/restart the VM, and also to check the specs (available storage space and public IP among other things). I use Microsoft RDP to access this VM.

In addition to this VM, I also use the “Screens” app to access my iMac both locally and remotely.

With these two options, I’m able to access everything. Full Adobe CC apps, any local files, etc.

That said, the iPad is incredibly capable on its own too, so primarily I’m just using native iPad to accomplish everything I want to.

Where can I buy that iPad stand? 😍

Very nice indeed. Say, what do you do when you take the iPad to another location in order to get your onscreen keyboard back? Switch Bluetooth off for the time? Turn off the peripherals?

I believe you can hit the eject key, but I just switch off the track pad and keyboard. I have a magic keyboard for the iPad Air 3, but my wife commandeered it when this mess started.

I think we want to get an iMac eventually, she wants one now, considering iOS only does have annoying roadblocks sometimes, but I’m trying to get her to hold out for that rumored refreshed lineup. Not sure if we can hold out though...

This is my setup for now. Depending on what’s going on I will switch the laptop and iPad to either side. Eventually I will get more serious with external monitors and keyboards, and an updated MacBook:

FYI - I remote login to my work machine (Windows) via my MacBook. It works well enough - though I probably should have a Windows setup at home. However there are many work approved apps that run on IOS outside of a remote login environment. So I use both.
