Hi!

If I store a (for example) Numbers file on a USB flash drive, will all the previous versions of that file also be stored on the same flash drive (File > Revert To > Browse All Versions)? Or are all the previous versions stored on the local Mac OS drive?

Thanks!

I haven't used that feature much, but I think the previous versions (revisions) are stored on the same volume as the main file. So yes, (if I'm right) in your example they would be on the flash drive and not the Mac's OS boot drive.

HFS-formatted volumes have a hidden directory at the root level, called '.DocumentRevisions-V100'. I don't see that on my APFS-formatted volumes, but I bet the revisions are kept somewhere on the same volume.

Perhaps you can take that USB flash drive to a different Mac, and verify that the previous revisions are still accessible on the second Mac...
