Take a look at the review "Scooterman1" left on my app ABContacts and see why developers are angry for how the review system is.

DON'T BUY UNTIL THEY UPDATE (one star)

This App stopped working for Forwarded Email when OS 3.0 was released. It DOES NOT WORK ON OS 3.0 iPhone 3GS. If sending a new email, it works great. However; when forwarding an email, it DOES NOT place ANY names in the To:, cc, or Bcc fields in the email that you have opened for forwarding. I have emailed them, left a comment on their Blog, and they DO NO respond!!! Support seems to be non-existent. It worked great before OS 3.0 was released.

Now if only I had a Blog or I had received an email from this guy I could tell him that forwarding email is not a feature of ABContacts and it only worked as a trick before OS3. Who knows where he sent his comments...

Now tell me how I can respond to such a review since being italian I can't even report a concern on the US store.
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Em, in the body of the app description? You've got much more text space on your app page than reviewers have.

Well, as of this morning, 31 people have given you one star ratings vs about the same number giving you five so being concerned over one of those reviewers seems pointless.

I suppose you could do what many other developers do and that is drown out is review with a bunch of your friends "five star" praise comments!

It looks like a great app for what it is. How about taking his comment seriously and consider modify/updating so as to cover his concerns?

^^^

If one does not like the app and give a one star review it's ok for me.

But this guy wrote a one star review for a firmware problem rather than an app problem (it's impossibile to forward an email from an app unless the app IS a mail app that reads your inbox) but, and THIS IS the thing that make me angry, he says that I don't respond to support requests: I respond always in less than 24 hours. I don't even have a blog so I really don't know where this genius has sent his support request.... Probably it has sent his request to another app developer

Edit: there's a scooterman1 macrumors user, i've sent him a PM, let's see if it's the same scooterman1 :)

If you're able to get ahold of him let us know how it turns out as he can modify/alter his review based on favorable communications.

Good luck with it all as again, yours is an interesting take on what is a hugh field of apps doing basically the same thing.

ABContacts is terrific. Better than any other contact extender I have tried.

Well, scooterman1 (Neil) is a macrumors user, he contacted me and I explained him the issue is a firmware issue (but now with copy-paste you can work around it).

Neil has changed the review.

Thanks to Neil and sorry if I was a bit angry, I really put all myself in these little apps :)

P.S.
Thanks iFerd !

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

People get too uptight with reviews. People are entitled to their opinion regardless how wrong they may be. Apple should allow devs to contact reviewers by pm.

Seemed like a legit concern to me.

Making unsubstantiated claims like, "I have emailed them", the lack of a forwarding feature in 3.0, and "DON'T BUY UNTIL THEY UPDATE" could impair any business.

Glad it all worked out! I figured with a little extra on your part it would.

You obviously care about your app unlike many other developers who appear to be in it for the quick cash.

WOW !

Now that the issue with scooterman1 is resolved, look at this one from MartinHSV, is very funny :

CAN NOT ADD MORE FIELDS, one star
I purchased this application with the hope of adding more of the fields I already have populated in OUTLOOK. I purchased it and what a waste of money. I removed it 5 minutes after I installed it. DO NOT buy this program if you want to add more fields to you contacts. As a former Palm user Contacts on the iPhone are lacking. Lack of a task program is a second lacking issue

.... "with the hope" ??? There's the iTunes description, user's guide, demo video, what a developer should also do to make it clear what an app does ?
Should this one star review remain on the app store ? It will because developers can't complain....

I know of one developer who has "purchased" their own applications. They post periodic "reviews" that are aimed at clearing up confusion. I expect there are other developers doing that too. Maybe that approach would at least give you a voice in the reviews. Make a username that reflects your company so people will readily know the comments are from you.
