What a screen!

I got tired of waiting for the macbook pro refresh, and caved in and purchased a 27" i7 iMac yesterday, and all I an say is wow! I have been working on a 27" Samsung and I thought it was great until using this. It's going to be hard to get any work done today as I just want to "play" around with this beast.

And for the record, I ran all the screen tests (will run again after have a few hours on the monitor), but so far (crossing fingers), so good, with no issues so far.

Good to hear. If you could post some pictures for us it would be great. Not that I don't believe what you say, but opinions do vary, and we would all like to know there really is a "very good" iMac screen. The issue that bothers me the most is the uneven backlight bleeding. So if you could please turn off the lights in the room where the computer is and take a picture of the screen (with a black background) it'd be very appreciated.

I actually did get it in the Apple Store. They quietly started carrying the i7s sometime in the last couple weeks. I was going to order it online and save the sales tax, but Mac Connection kept pushing back the date they would have theirs and MacMall pissed me off with some poor customer service.

I'll try to get some pictures for you, but it might be tomorrow. I have many green beers to drink later today... I'll be interested to hear what you think. I definitely don't have the technical eye of some of you. Graphics display doesn't affect my work for the most part, so what is tolerable for me, might be terrible for you.

Casually-taken photos where there's even a minor variation in exposure or screen-to-camera distance will provide a different result from one camera to the next, thus making worthwhile comparison meaningless.

I understand this. I did not ask for a yellow screen test, nor do I seek to compare anything at all. I asked for a picture of a black screen taken in a dark room, where exposure does not matter - I just want to know where, if any, the "bleed spots" are. I am not interested in how dark or blown out they are, but their mere presence.

What's it matter? If the OP thinks he has a perfect screen, let him think so...no need for a 'show me' request, IMO. If your screen bleeds, that's YOUR screen. Why worry about someone else's? I'd worry more about if YOUR replacement also bleeds.

And IMO, I don't think it should matter to you whether I ask for a picture or not. I didn't come in here bashing Apple or telling the OP he most definitely has a faulty back-bleeding screen, did I? I just asked for a picture, to see if they've improved since the last one I received [and returned].

Welcome to the internet. And last I checked, this was an open forum. I say what I want and haven't broken any forum rules...you don't have to like it or read it...ignore me if you want, but I'm speaking my mind on this. It matters to me because every time someone posts something nice about their new iMac, someone appears and attempts to bring the poster down. He'll post your requested picture thinking there's nothing there, then someone will state that they see bleeding and that he should return it until he has a good one. It seems like there's a 1 in 5 chance that some excited new iMac owner will have the carpet ripped from under him in these forums...kinda sad. But anyways, if you can ask such questions, I can certainly say something about it.

You may as well have. I'm betting that you (or someone else) will, once the pic is posted.

That statement reads a whole lot better than here. The way you stated it, it sounded like you were telling the guy that his eyes were bad. And I really liked the 'very good' part.

Sorry man, this is yet another hijack of a thread, IMO. There's several threads complaining of the lack of quality in the screens...no need to turn this one into another. The guy states he's loving the screen...I guess that's not enough for some people...he should show why he loves it?

You took my post the wrong way, simple as that. I came in here in good spirit but I'll let this go now because I'd rather not go back and forth with you, nor with anyone else. I didn't think I'd have to defend myself in this one. But by the way.. I used "very good" because I know NO screen will ever be 100% perfect.

Agree 100%. The op should resist the temptation to post photos. He has stated he's happy with his screen and that's what matters, not the opinions of assorted zealots who try to tell us there is no such thing as a good screen. There are people here whose only aim is to spread dissatisfaction. Best not to feed them.

I'm not avoiding posting. I'm just recovering from St. Pattys and trying to get some work done. I'll try to get to it this weekend probably. I will say that the more I look at the screen, the more defects I think I see--I'm becoming a screen hypocondriac, lol. Because of the amount of following (and learning) I did here at MacRumors before buying, you almost just assume something has to be wrong with all the issues posted.

If anything, the screen might be bleeding a bit on the right edge, but noone who has looked at it sees it but me, so who knows, haha.
