What a wonderful moment!!!

I just wanted to share a wonderful moment with you great guys at MR Forums. I was on the train from Manchester to London last weekend. It's been a while since I traveled by train and couldn't quite believe the number of laptops in my carriage. People were running out of battery power, having crashes, and generally struggling with the weight and bulkiness of their windows laptops.

You know what's coming next .... Out of my Crumpler bag (not a standard laptop case by any means) I pull out my shiny sexy new 15"MBP C2D, lifted the lid, and there it was, just as I left it with Fawlty Towers playing. Now here comes the wonderful moment ...

Nearly everyone with a Windows laptop and a few with no laptops simply oggled my machine. I've never felt so proud! My MBP behaved beautifully and put the other laptops to shame. A girl on my table with her troubled laptop even asked me all about macs, mac osx etc.

Has anyone else had similar experiences with stories to tell?

I used to get people asking me about my C1 Picturebook all the time. Thankfully, I don't seem to get nearly as many questions about my Macbook. It got to the point where I hated taking my Picturebook out in public, because I was constantly having to talk to people about my computer and couldn't actually use the thing.

i always have these moments when i give a talk and hook up my powerbook to the beamer/projector, click detect displays and I'm ready to go. the windows users need 5 min, 2 reboots, 15 setting changes to get a signal. most of the time they need an admin to make it work at all.

I have had that one so many times

My favorite, and most unbelieveable is in '02 a person looked at me runing with my ipod and asked me if I worked for the CIA (he was like 8) but whatever it was pretty cool...

This being Macrumors, we accept nothing without pictures!

There something just a little bit mischevious though, every time I see people struggling scanning for viruses, or having to reinstall Windows I have this urge to whip out my Mac and start breezily working away next to them - just to show them there is another way.

...I'm surprised I don't get beaten up more.

When people walk into our offices their first word is usually "wow" followed by a phrase such as "we use Dells... at the moment".

Here I was, miffed that I'd never had any sort of cool I-use-a-Mac moment but you reminded me.

I'd brought my iMac over to my ex's house (we were still together) and his mom saw it. She said, "Wow, you really do have great taste. That's a beautiful computer." I nodded. Then she started looking around my feet. I nervously fidgeted and asked what she was looking for and sure enough, she was completely baffled at the concept that the thin gorgeous display was also the computer. The ex's father also had a similar moment. Except he seemed a bit more skeptical.

I have indeed experienced similar encounters with PC users and the like, only my experience has a signficiant twist: (behold my exposition):

Beatrice, my wife, and I are in the Sugar Bowl, a quaint, little coffee shop nestled near the University of Alberta, in Edmonton. Occasionally, I enjoy taking my work into a new setting; Beatrice is always a willing participant. Here we find ourselves, settled comfortably at our table, she with her iBook and I, my PowerBook.

Not long after we settled, a stranger approached and leaned into our space. I, of course, took notice and found this young man gawking at my PowerBook. So impressed was he with its elegance and impressively thin design, his fingers found their way onto its surfaces. Immediately, he began his interrogation into my PowerBook’s features, guts, and casing; he seemed almost in disbelief as I told him that my computer is nearly four-years-old; not the new Intel MacBook Pro he at first suspected. Still, he marveled. He was strangely in awe at so much presented in such a small, thin package – almost as though the brilliant design and architecture is cutting-edge.

It never ceases to amaze me how often I receive acclaim on my PowerBook. Those who know me well know that I never get tired of it; nor am I short on providing praise of my own, perhaps to the vexation of those who know me well.

The other week I was travelling back from Bristol and the guy opposite had the biggest "Laptop" I've ever seen. It was a HP thing. The screen alone looked thicker than my PowerBook is when it's closed!
His was around a 15" screen too but it totally dwarfed my PB.

It is nice owning an Apple laptop...

I'm not sure. Many were interested, and I gave the girl on my table directions to the Regent St. Apple Store, so who knows? I have converted many of my friends and family with very little effort. Do you think I should ask Steve for commission?
