What about portable / bluetooth speakers.

Hi,

I must say, i'm a little disappointed with the build-in speakers of my mac mini. What a difference with my fathers imac speakers! Okay, i don't aspect deep basses coming from it, but especially the lack of loudness is disappointing.
If i really want to enjoy music I use my Sonos system. That's not the problem.

But occasionally I want to watch a youtube clip or listen to something else on my mac mini. I've bought a couple of cheap desktop speakers, but i already removed them from my desk. I'd like to keep things clean and tidy and hated all the cables...

But I was thinking, recently you see more and more bluetooth / portable speakers. No hassle with cables (battery, bluetooth connection), you can put them where you want and some of them look stylish too!

Does somebody have some experience with these kind of speakers? Can I use them as a main sound output device for my mac?

(I already used AirSonos, software that enables to output all the mac's audio to a Sonos speaker, but it's too laggy. The latency is too high!)

Compare the size of the iMac stereo speakers

the black objects on the far left and far right​

to the size of the Mac mini speaker

that black stuff between those salmon fingers​

and you should see or hear why the difference.

It is the same with older models of both lines.
The speaker in the Mac mini is not intended to be used for entertainment sound playback.

Anyway, as to your question, I am quite happy with the Bose SoundLink Mini, it is quite a good speaker for its size, though a bit centred. I sometimes even use it in the car of the week, if that car does not have any kind of sound input.

The bose sound link mini, or any other bluetooth speaker, it offers no kind of problems when connecting to a mini? I mean in terms of latency and all?

Edit: i was thinking of the creative soundblaster roar as an option...

I haven't noticed any latency issues with it, and if, there is always the Aux-In to use an analog 3.5mm TRS cable.

I've been using the FoxL bluetooth speakers for a few years. Good sound from a small package. Latency is less than when using Airplay. They offer a tiny subwoofer if you want to go that route as well.

in regards to the bluetooth speaker, I have a speaker that I got on sale on amazon- it's from Techmatte, and it's pretty good for how much I paid for it. I wanted to use one of these by my woodshed, while I'm working. It works pretty nicely for me, so I'm sure you'll have no issues with it by your computer. Here's a link for you, check it out.
