Now that the oculus rift has dropped to an affordable level I was thinking of dipping my toe into VR but is it feasible that the rift will work with the 2017 iMac in bootcamp?

The i7 - 580 should both cut it shouldn't they?

Personally I would wait until High Sierra is released and SteamVR support for it is launched. Then determine whether or not to go with the Rift (Vive maybe better).

I feel without some low level APIs specific for Macs the VR experience would be lackluster in Windows. I could be wrong though I would like to see your results if you try it (if its possible).

Well effectively wouldn't the Oculus hardware just see the iMac as a windows 10 PC, certainly the specs are up to the job, I think it has the correct ports once a usb-c to hdmi adapter is used.

Just don't know if it's worth the gamble, I checked and oculus say they only accept unopened units as returns.

Yes it SHOULD see the iMac as a Windows 10 PC. However I'm not sure about the drivers for the Pro 580 in Bootcamp and whether you are getting the most out of it. Also I wouldn't say "certainly the specs are up to the job". They should be yes, but I've used VR on much more powerful hardware and found limiting settings required.

It will all depend on what you are doing. Porn (if thats your thing I'm not here to judge), movies, virtual tours, etc etc will all be fine. Certain games using a more powerful R9 Fury I've found stuttering and frame rate drops.
