I just got my 17 inch Powerbook, and want to know what is the Best Antivirus Software for my Mac??????????????

Ah yes, software to prevent those millions of Mac viri that are floating around on the internet and e-mail attachments...

Seriously, most Mac virus prevention software for Macs exists to prevent viri from being transferred to your PC friends, there was a thread on this awhile back, I'll see if I can find it...

If you sign up for a .Mac account you get some virus software I think.

I use no virus software. Have never had a virus.
I get annoyed when using a computer that has Virex or whatever and when I put a disc in, it does the virus scan thing.

On a slightly related note, how important is it to have firewall software?

cheers

Same here.

I don't use ANY virus software..... So far, I haven't contracted one....

otherwise you could always go to Nortons and download the demo. Delete it after you use it then download it again when you think you have viri

Well, back on OS 7, 8, and 9 I ran into virus trouble all the time (though not as much as Windoze users, heh heh heh). What was it... MDEF something or other? Anyone remember the one with an M that came in several strains?

Anyway, with my .Mac account I get Virex for free, but I don't use it. No problems since X revolutionized my life.

I would have to say don't worry about it.

Dan

X comes with a firewall built-in, i don't know how good it is or how configurable as i have a firewall in my router

I'd say if you're not behind a firewall, it's probably a VERY good idea to get behind one!
