What apple devices do you own and what is your use case? What is your perfect device combo?

Advice me what to buy? I learn coding at night, during the day I run a yt channel and a small online store with a blog, I workout often and do some very light video editing/photo editing/gaming. I travel rarely but I am often on the go during the day.

Are you able to wait until the end of the year for either an ARM Mac or an ARM MacBook?

Mac mini plus 12.9 iPad Pro and pencil. And something like jump desktop.

I second this notion. I have an iPhone 11 and iPad Pro 11. Returned my MacBook Air and will be scooping up a Mac Mini. For me, an iPad Pro and MacBook feel like too much overlap. Desktop gives you more power and versatility while the iPad gives you the portability aspect—unless you’re on the road a lot and/or the iPad doesn’t allow the usage of a specific kind of app or task.

I’m a little cost conscious so:
- iPhone SE 2 128GB + Apple silicone case + AppleCare
- refurb iPad Air 3 + Apple Smart Keyboard + Applecare
- refurb Mac Mini i3 256gb 8gb + external drive
- Apple Watch 3 Cellular
- Airpod pros
- Beats Studio Wireless

iPhone 11, Airpods Gen 1, Apple Watch Series 5 (WiFi), 11in 2020 iPad Pro 156gb, Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil here. Couldn’t be happier with the current combo. Don’t do a whole lot outside of work on the computer these days and I have a windows setup for that. I had a MacBook Air when they upgraded to Retina in 2018, then switched to a MacBook Pro last year. I was bored in quarantine and ordered the iPad 7th Gen on a 249 deal and fell in love with iPadOS. After sitting on this forum and watching a slew of review vids I decided to take the plunge and switch to iPad full time. So I sold my MacBook Pro, gifted the 7th Gen iPad to a friend and ordered the iPad Pro setup. Looking forward to having a compact device with some longevity. I realize the basic iPad may have been sufficient but the Magic Keyboard really changed the game for me. Def wouldn’t have been able to stand it without keyboard and pencil accessories.

I don't own a lot of Apple devices and at least for me there is no interesting or particular logic. I own the following devices:

1. iPhone 8 - corporate phone that the company gave me. It has different Apple ID so I don't rely at all on Apple ecosystem or continuity. I do not want to use my personal Apple ID for work related stuff so this is why I set it up with another one.
2. iPad 6th generation - most probably will be given to my mother
3. iPad Pro 2018 - stays for me

iPhone 11 Pro Max
iPad Pro 12.9” 2018
Apple Watch Series 5 44mm
MacBook Pro 13’’ 2020
AirPods (First Generation)

Thats my current set up. Probably a bit overkill with the iPad and MacBook to be honest. I’ve had both devices in the past and normally use one more than the other and then one of them becomes redundant but I have to say I do use the MacBook Pro and iPad quite well alongside each other. Sometimes use the iPad as a second display when working on the Mac and then I find at different times the iPad is better than the Mac when sitting on the sofa and vice versa. So I have to say they both get equal usage really which im quite pleased about.

iPhone speaks for itself. Apple Watch I use regularly for my runs & walks. The only device I could do with upgrading is my first gen AirPods. The battery isn’t so great anymore but they still do a job so reluctant at the moment to upgrade.

Oh also still using a green iPhone 5c as my works phone. Can’t believe it’s still working. Also have a 1st Gen iPad, iPhone 1st Gen, iPhone 3G and a Black 2006 unibody MacBook somewhere too.

Coding and YouTube video creation are probably not going to be good use cases for an iPad in 2020. Coding less so than YT. If not for this, I’d recommend the iMac+iPad combo. But it sounds like you need something you can actually work on while you’re away from the desktop. So in that case a MacBook is the better option over an iPad for your case.

Me:
iPhone X
iPad Pro 11” 2020
AirPods
HP Zbook X360 (work)
Custom Gaming PC (work and play)
(I have other devices but this is my primary usage)

I agree with this. It depends on the coding you do obviously. If it is to create web sites by using wordpress and squrespace there are apps that you can install on the iPad so maybe something can be done. If it is Python you can try to set up some Jupiter notebook through Safari but I am not sure if it will work properly. If it is Swift using Xcode would be better IMO. Same can be said for Java.

I know that people use iPad to remote desktop another machine for coding but this still means owning also another machine. In the end of the day I don't think that you can do coding with having only one device and it being iPad.

Seems a bit overkill to have everything, I only use a MacBook Pro and an iPhone and I've never felt the need for an iPad or iMac as well.
