This is my first time keeping an iPhone for over 2 years. I always bought the full 2 year AppleCare+ and this time I went month to month, mainly because my battery was at 81% when it expired. I've also had both speakers and screen replaced.

Here I am, a year later, and my battery is at 82% and I'm probably going to get a new battery in a couple of months.

But it got me thinking. What do others do? Should I cancel it after the battery and just risk it? I'm not too keen on the iPhone 13 or 14 so I'd rather not upgrade to one of those if anything were to happen to my 11 Pro. Really, I do like the Pro, but I feel the new iOS is chewing through the battery.

I would say I go without AC+. But that option isn't there, so I had to check 'risk it'. I just don't consider myself to be risking anything. I'm careful with my phone. And I don't use cases either.

My 6s+ is still going and that was a launch weekend 2015 iPhone. Only the battery has been replaced. Never been in a case, never had AC+. No scratches, dents, cracks or any other damage.

I did drop my 11 Pro Max in May 2022 though (last year as of this moment). I happened to have AC+ on it simply because the rep sneaked it in without my authorization when I got the phone in February 2021. About a month after replacing the phone under AC+, I cancelled it.

But that's the first time since 2012 I've had AC+ on my phone and I didn't authorize it. Go figure…years without AC+ and no drops. I get AC+ crammed on me and I drop the phone. SMH.

I always get AppleCare+ with theft and loss and pay monthly. It’s not a noticeable amount and if I ever need to use it, I’ll be glad I had it.

1. Use a good 2+ layer case.
2. Don't drop the phone.
3. Replace the battery as needed.

Maybe 10 years ago, I would have purchased AppleCare+. Back then, I didn't know what cases were good, there was no water resistance, and materials were "softer" (iPhone 6). Today, I don't see the need.

Interesting.

For some reason, my speakers seem to blow about the 18 month mark. And I really don't even listen to media much and when I do it's not that loud. Apple used to replace the entire phone. With the 11 Pro, apparently the top speaker is attached to the screen, so I got a new screen, too.

I tried to risk it with Apple Watch. And it fell off my wrist and shattered a month after I got it.
