What are Apple like on returns?

Hey, I'm just curious what Apple are like with returns in there 14 day period (I'm thinking of returning my iMac). I have a few questions, I would be grateful for any answers.

First off say you rip the box a little while opening it, or you throw away the film that covers the screen. Are they fine taking things back like this or really strict? (I haven't done either btw, I'm just curious).

Do I have to do anything software wise to the machine? Erase and install or anything like that?

This might sound stupid but you can open the product and use it before sending it back yeah? Or is this one of the return polices where the item must be unopened?

Lastly if I open the product and use it for a few days, can I send it back because I just don't like it or does there have to be a fault?

To be honest what I'm really asking is are they a fair company when it comes to returns or are they a pain? I've had no experience with ordering from Apple direct so I have no idea.

If the product is open then they are going to charge a 10% restocking fee.

Other then that, they are pretty good about taking anything. As for the plastic, you don't need that, but you do need all of the essential items that came in the box.

As for software, I'd personally do a seven pass on the drive just to be safe, but that's just me.

As it has been said here numerous times before, the restocking fee applies to US only.
Local laws apply as far as restocking fees are concerned. Again, read as the OP is in the UK.

plus if you ordered online I believe that EU law requires Apple to offer a 14 day no questions asked return option (as long as you haven't damaged the Imac)
