Late last year I got a 24" Alu iMac (with Applecare)and it's going great, except... it does have a gradient issue with the screen.

So my question is, after new iMacs are released, could I possibly send back the computer and try for a new one?

Anybody have experience with such things?

To be honest, at the moment the screen doesn't bother me too much, I'm just kinda bummed that a top computer has such a crappy fault. Also, I'm going to get into Photoshop more once I get an DSLR, so gradient - no thanks...

Cheers

Hey i would also like to know the chances. im in NZ and just got my comp about 3/4 weeks ago.but it has gradient issue from top to bottom. not that i want a new model one, even if it was the same model, would they replace it?

thanks
Sa,

Sorry, not gonna happen.

I had AppleCare on my iBook. It had a messed up LCD, the Hard Drive failed, among other things, and I wanted a Macbook, but they sent me my original iBook with just the hard drive changed.

Doesn't hurt to ask.

At best, if your screen has a severe gradient you might be able to get Apple to replace the panel under AppleCare. In no way, shape or form does AppleCare provide you with the option to have the machine you purchased exchanged with any model that comes out after it just because the defect becomes apparent after the new models are released.

I had a defect on the LCD panel of my 24" iMac. It was like a small shadow line on the panel. I sent it to Apple and they replaced the LCD panel with another of the exact same model. That is the limit of their liability.
