Ok so I've had the new iMac for roughly 3 weeks and I love it. But my screen is having some serious screen bleed (I think thats what it's called) and one dead pixel around the middle of the screen. At first it didn't bother me much but when watching movies it is becoming more noticable, and after having paid over 2220 bucks for it I'm thinking of contacting apple.
What do they do in a case like this, send it in for repairs or replace it? And if they do replace it is there a way I can transfer everything on my iMac to the new one such as World of Warcraft so I don't have to download it again?
take it back to the apple store and make them exchange it for you. they might be reluctant to and suggest that you send it in for repairs instead, but arguee with them that you can't go any period of time without your mac - for school or for work, whatever. then when they exchange it, have them transfer over your files via firewire.
i did exactly that just a few days ago (had the machine for 3 weeks, requested an exchange, had my files transfered). i did have to argue with the manager though (because he was an idiot) but you may not have to. you could also say that you didn't have access to get to the apple store (assuming it's far from where you live).
if you purchase from a reseller (like Futureshop) they have different return policies than the apple store. Futureshop items can be returned before 30 days, but i don't think they can do a transfer of files for you like they will at The Apple Store.
if the store manager doesn't want to do an exchange, it's because it will make him look bad to be adding to the (probably huge) list of refurbs that apple has to resell. but what's more important? getting something you already paid good money for? or allowing some douche manager look good to corporate? just go get what you paid for, and don't let the store manager bully you into some lame policy that Apple has. i mean, you really did JUST buy it, so you should NOT have to send it in for repairs.
finally, when they exchange it for you, ask them for a model built in the states (serial number starts with QP), they seem to have less issues than models from china (serial numbers starting with W8).
