What are reasons to go for apple's notes vs something like OneNote?

Are there any? I like apple notes just for the way the pencil looks when writing, but literally everything else seems inferior. But then again, i don't use it enough to know if there's something I'm missing. Is there? And you can include iOS 11's apple notes when discussing

OneNote does not support files over 80MB (or is it 100MB now?) which ist ridiculously small for 2017. Insert a short HD movie sequenze in a keynote file and you easily hit that spot.
Large OneNote Notebooks sync for hours and not minutes. The Onenote app needs to be OPEN to sync, with display powered on.

I was thinking the same thing with Notability, except with iOS 11 the Notes app is gaining PDF support, searchable hand writing, and the ability to have lined paper. Notability has virtually nothing now other then the voice recording but I dont use that so. What I am interested to see is how versatile Notes will be with PDF and other documents, if I cant import files into my notes then I will go back to Notability.

In iOS 11, notes can be taken easily by using Apple Pencil to touch the lock screen and take notes in stock notes app.
This could be a plus on using apple notes than other note taking apps.

Does notes support collections of notes into an equivalent of chapters or notebooks? I've only ever used it for jotting separate things down as individual notes because it didn't seem very feature rich

I agree that OneNote has the potential to be a Mercedes, but at the moment it maybe is a 2010 Mercedes with a 75 HP motor.

While Apple Notes was only so-so in the past, it has made great improvements which I wasn't aware of. It now strikes (for me) the right balance between simplicity/speed and functionality.

Apple notes pluses:

• great for typed notes
• good text formatting options (but not as good as Notability on iOS)
• very good sharing functionality
• good integration with iOS share sheets
• Good and fast search function, I think it is a bit faster than Notability
• Search on attachments, very handy when searching for sketches or photographed whiteboards
• iPhone, iPad and iMac versions
• Sync works reliable and fast. I know sync wasn't that good a few versions ago, but this has been greatly improved

Apple notes minuses

• no palm protection for non-Apple styluses, makes writing/drawing a bit awkward
• Small issue: iMac version does not show the number of notes in a map (iOS version does however)

And like other pointed out: Apple seems to be serious about its Notes app, bringing further improvements in iOS 11.

What everybody forgets is backup / restore.
If you do not delete a note but accidentally erase the contents of a note (or part of it) then you are screwed big time with Apple Notes.
In OneNote however I can go to the web interface and see the note versions.
In my opinion a huge plus.

Also what I like in OneNote is that I can scribble over typed text as well, mark it and more.
Can't do in Apple Notes.

[doublepost=1504941873][/doublepost]Notes is quite OK for typed notes, but for handwriting just so-and-so IMHO.

Some of it's limitations that I ran into:

- one line thickness only (pen and pencil strokes are way too thin for my taste, and I found no way to change)
- in an iOS11 preview I saw the colours been cut down to just 6 primary colours, too bland for me
- in iOS11 we seem to get a lined paper, but no squared, dotted... (and probably no way to add your own templates)
- one level folders only (AFAIK)
- one page per one note

I'm a long time GoodNotes user, but I will follow up Notes' updates closely.

You have to do it on a mac. It won't let you do it on the iPhone and iPad.

Personally I've tried other things like Evernote and OneNote and I find some of them prohibitively expensive and some of them are just ridiculously complicated. Why does text in OneNote have to be in a text box? It's messy, when 99% of my notes are just plain text.

For me, the Apple Note's app strikes a fantastic balance between simplicity and the ability to add some formatting - and it syncs seamlessly.

My only issue is the browser interface won't allow you to sort notes alphabetically - but then my work's firewall blocks iCloud so that's a non issue for me these days.
