What are the 3 most disappointing moves apple has made?

In my opinion, these are the most disappointing moments in (my short) Apple history:

1. Downgrading the iPod Nano from 5th gen to 6th gen
2. Not releasing a redesigned iPhone 5
3. Getting rid of Spaces in favor of Mission Control

The first because I think the 5th gen Nano was close to perfect and was hoping to upgrade to get more storage but couldn't do it since I like so many features that are now missing in the 6th gen. The second because this was going to be my first iPhone but since most of my friends that have an iPhone 4 have broken them, I was waiting for a new design with less glass. The third because I was using Spaces a lot and being able to use many spaces and switch between them quickly was great. With the new linear mode, it's not that great.

Which three Apple moves have disappointed you the most?

Meh I've only been an Apple user since January when I got my iphone 4. I am not disappointed with the 4s at all though I won't upgrade. The speed, graphics and memory (64 would be nice as I only have 3GB of my 32 GB phone left) are quite impressive. I'm sorry for ipod touch users as they got nothing-and the nano changes are not worth that much. Too bad the Classic is untouched.

Never used a Mac though I might in the future so can't comment there.

I have the new Nano, personally find it better than the old one. Kinda peeved they dropped prices this year, but I've had mine for close to 12 months now so no biggie. It's not like you upgrade iPods once every year though, mine still works fine and so does the iPod Mini it replaced.

Spaces/Mission Control : I like Lion's implementation better. Finally works decently, different wallpapers for each so you have a quick visual cue as to which space you're on, easy swapping with gestures (though I still use CMD+Arrows a lot). Spaces is still there, Spaces still works fine. It's different that's all.

Most disappointing Apple stuff :

1) Ping. Shove it in my face ? Thank god it's a failure.
2) Sandy Bridge integrated graphics - Not their fault Intel was a greedy bastard.
3) Thunderbolt - At least for now.

Of course, this is just the recent stuff, I don't let it get to me to the point that I remember the older crap. Apple has always been hit and miss.

I want to add iLife 11 to my list as well. What a shambles that is. Especially iPhoto.

1) The Apple Pippin. Sold a handful of thousand!

2) OS9. All of the lead up with next gen OS after next gen OS getting started and cancelled leading to the release of a laughable, geriatric OS whilst they rushed to turn NeXT STep into OSX.

3) The first Newton. It was a cool product once the sorted out the glitches and flaws but they should have done that in private

People have short memories. Lion and the lack of a product they never said would exist seem like pretty minor things.

1) The shift away from prosumers. I got into Apple because they were perfect for my needs. 7 years later and they're going after a very different market.

2) Quicktime X and Lion. But this might just be a glowing example of the above.

3) OS9. We were forced to use this through college and it didn't really "convert me". OSX did, even on the same hardware. 9 was just awful to use.

Using cheap plastics for MacBooks, they crack and will always, even their attempt with PolyCarbonate is not good enough.
Late 2008 MBP battery duration = worst ever!!!
Making iLife very slow after each OS X update.
Not allowing video recording in the first iPhones.
Not allowing easy docs management in the iOS devices, I mean even non iTunes content needs the stupid sync via iTunes.
The cumbersome clutter of the iTunes Store has not been made simple to browse and navigate, browsing is dreadful and the lack of full detailed info on the artists, they only 'inform' about what they offer, and the release dates are iTunes dates, not when the songs/discs/movies were actually released by the artists.
Not allowing (non server) SnowLeopard virtual machines.
The MightyMouse and the Magic Mouse 'ergonomics'.
Keeping the beach ball as the wait cursor for so many years...no more beachballs please, make the system work even poor programmers make it through the AppStore...revise your policies and instead on focusing on some non-sense policies make this one a real winner for the App Store and the Mac community.

2. The switch from PPC to Intel
3. Thinking that they're all that and a bag of chips, when their iOS devices took off

Moving from Apple Computer -> Apple signified a change of strategy, from a computer company to a consumer company, which I disapprove of.

Going from PPC to Intel made the mac the same as every other computer. They truly lost something Magical that day.

And they need to realize they're still acting like a whiny underdog, when they're the largest company in the world. Seriously, Apple needs to grow up.

Dropping of legacy everything when it doesn't fit their future goals. Result is an "Apple tax" that goes far beyond that cited for the initial computer purchase.

I run a nearly 10 year old Microsoft OS on a brand new HP workstation and use some software applications written in the early 90's for Windows 3.1 and in the 80's for MS-DOS as well as the latest Microsoft Office and other current software. Can't do the equivalent of that in the Mac world.

They are most certainly not the same as every other computer. The innards, perhaps, but the average user pays little to no attention to the innards. It's the User Experience which defines Macs, as it defines virtually all Apple products. In the case of the Mac, attention to design and OS X.

That's a far cry from "the same as every other computer." I used to have a PowerMac. It felt no different from any other computer, save for the design and the OS.

Macs are not undifferentiated.

2 iCloud (which could have just been a fixed MM transition) instead they took away the primary features (other than mail) that my family used. Gallery, iDisk, and certain syncing preferences are now going to the curb. This is by far the biggest fail in a year. At least with iWeb gone, I can easily deal with moving a domain.

Now I need (3) services to now function as the (1) service I paid for from Apple.

Yet they sell iCloud like it's some sort of Magical new thing, it isn't. It's MM, with a new badge minus the feature set we once had.
iWork syncing, oh yippie
photo's saved to all devices, who cares? Use iPhoto once a week and be done, besides, you can't manage your iPhoto library from your iOS device anyway.
Cloud backup, yep that's an addition that the new server farm should be able to handle at least.

So, take away iDisk, iWeb, Photo Gallery, and give us the same as it ever was with a new logo.

1. Dumping the wide range of highly expandable desktops to the barely upgradeable iMac and Mac Mini. Now you have to spend about 2K for a Mac that can take an expansion card. The Mac Mini and iMac should have been in addition to low, medium and high end desktops.

2. That the PowerMac early PCI PowerMacs did not support OS X. During the days of System 7 it was promised that these macs would run the highly publicized and touted next generation OSes. Since the promised Copland and Gershwin were scrapped then that means those Macs should have run OS X as that replaced the Copland project. I was quite angry that my 9500/132 would not run OS X.

3. Airprint. There is no good reason why I should not be able to use any network printer. I don't need HP's full gamut of drivers stored on the iOS just the drivers for the printers on my network. Usually with printers you can download the basic drivers. The iOS printing system should have been designed to be capable of using the existing OS X drivers.

1) unlawfully searching a persons home by posing as police officers then threatening his family with deportation when they didn't find what they were looking for. This was just pathetic on Apples part. They continue to lose their phones then put innocent people through hell.

2) Suing everybody in the industry in an attempt to monopolize the mobile market. It's getting old

3) Making super cheesy commercials that make me want to change the channel. Apple commercials are so gay
