So I am considering getting the 140W power brick for my 14" MBP. From my understanding my charging speeds will improve marginally with it. Is there any other benefit aside from charging speeds? I read in a review that the M1 Max on full power draws more energy than the 96W that the power brick can supply, so I was just wondering if I would gain some extra power using the 140W brick. Anyone running that set up and can provide some guidance?

why would apple put 96W charger if they knew MAX draws more power than that? that makes no sense, do you have link to that review?

also are you running out of battery while plugged in during work? because that would mean that 96W charger is not enough

This is the review: Apple MacBook Pro 14 2021 Laptop Review: The performance of the M1 Max is limited - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

Here is the relevant bit: "All in all, this is a rather disappointing results since the fans certainly have plenty of headroom. If you pay a lot of money for the M1 Max, you will probably want to use the performance in combined workload scenarios, which is not possible here. The power consumption already hits 97W at the beginning of the stress test, which is the limit of the PSU. Apple does not offer a more powerful power adapter for the MacBook Pro 14, so we expect the MBP 14 with the 32-core M1 Max will show a similar behavior. Unfortunately, we could not test the 140W power adapter due to supple issues, we would have liked to check the performance with the more powerful PSU."

Perhaps in an extreme case where you keep the Max at absolutely full capacity for hours and hours it would slowly start to empty the battery with the 96W charger. I bet that you'll find it difficult to encounter this even with the 67W one, let alone with the 96W brick. But I'm guessing here of course.

The only real world benefit is of course the faster charging - if you need that, go for it. I can't empty the battery in my base 14" during a full day, so for me I'd rather have the smaller more portable charger.

I haven't seen any reports of what happens. I might not make any difference, if the system is set up for only 96W. If it does, you'd think Apple would offer it with the 14" Max. You should try it and let us know!
